If you go to a beauty supply store like Sally's. They carry the hair dye used in the salons. They make hair dyes that are made for dark hair. I have dark hair and have very good results with Revlon High Color (I use a red). You will need to mix your own color though so ask the sales person to help you find everything you need. Black is a hard color to cover and a box from CVS may not do it for you. Remember that when you look at the little color swatches they have there that hair is synthetic and started out as white so the color is not going to match that exactally. You may have to try a few different brands before you find the color you like best but for the "do it yourself" person like myself a beauty supply store is the best bet and any good store will help you find the products you will need. Dont ask them what color is best for you though they are not aloud to give you color advise (its a legal thing if they tell you to use a color and you dont like it they are responsible for it). Good luck

Home hair dye solutions have color codes on the boxes. Typically if your hair is black, you will need to go to a lighter red--or even blonde--shade in order to get your hair to a "chocolate" brown shade. Strong advice: use a semi-permanent hair dye, NOT permanent. It's less harsh on your hair and if you're not happy with the resulting shade, it won't last nearly as long.

to do that youd have to bleach your hair and lighten it. A chocolate color wont cover black.

You can buy some dye in stores... or wait till summer and get a lot of sun so you don't have to worry about dying it again.
