That happened to my dog too. He's just mad at you right now. Give hime a little while and he will come around. You did the right thing with the powder. However, he will be frightened of the clippers from now on. so you may want to take him to a groomer to get it done. Thats what i did and its worked out gerat!

he's scared and sore, that's why he doesn't want to be near you. love on him, tell him you are sorry, make him let you near him. then mix some baking powder and water to make a thick paste, smash it into the end of the nail to stop it from bleeding and wrap it well with a clean white t-shirt material. you have to apply pressure at the wound sight to stop the bleeding, and if you don't he could bleed to death. if you can't get the bleeding to stop soon take him to a vet. and baby him for the next few days/week so that his nail will heal fully, because playing ruff and running could cause it to break open and start bleeding again. also, they make clippers specifically for dogs nail, were you using those? and in the future maybe have someone else hold him to keep him still. blessed be.

If you can't get anymore stiptic powder on it, take him outside and get him into some good old fashioned dirt and mud, clay like dirt or mud works very well as a home remedy for bleeding toenails, if he won't let you do that, put him into an area where the blood won't hurt anything, like tile or linoleum, or outside and let him go, your dog will NOT bleed to death from the toenail. It can get pretty messy and last for a little while, but it does taper off as the blood congeals. Ice can also help it stop faster, but doubt if he will let you apply it the way he's feeling right now. Good luck

You need to see if it's actually still bleeding and get the bleeding to stop. Approach your dog quietly and calmly; don't rush in or grab him or try to tackle him or anything (that will only frighten him more). Get down to his level, and calmly get a hold of him. S-l-o-w-l-y move your hands down his body to his foot and look to see if it's still bleeding. Reassure him at every touch that he's a good dog...

Don't touch the foot yet, just get him used to your touching him again. (He's associating your touch with pain, and you need to show him that you're not going to hurt him.)

If the toe is still bleeding, and the dog is now allowing your touch, use a clean wash cloth or paper towel, and gently but firmly apply pressure to the spot where the blood is coming out. With pressure the blood should clot wihtin a few minutes.

If it continues to bleed for more than 5 minutes, you need to get the dog to a vet.

Most of the time, nails will heal very quickly. He may be avoiding you because he can sense that you are stressed out, (plus you just hurt him a little.) I'd leave him alone for a bit, and maybe he will relax. When he does, check out his foot. If it's still bleeding, try to rub a bar of soap across it, and bandage it for 20 minutes. After the 20 minutes, take the bandage off. If it's still bleeding, he may have to see the vet for more "intense" care.

I wouldn't worry too much about the nail, it will stop bleeding. And you have plenty of good advice up there.

But try to relax and stop feeling guilty. I'm sure your dog senses that and it may be one reason he's avoiding you. Try tempting him with a really yummy treat (cheese?) and see if he takes it from you. The more you act as if you've done something wrong, the more he'll react to it. Dogs live in the moment, so let it pass and talk to him in a happy voice and eventually he'll come around.

does not sound too serious just call the vet. put corn starch in it. do something to clot the blood

As long as the dog is not whining in pain or severly bleeding it sounds ok. dont worry i have done it. I started clipping nails at the age of eight and still worry when i do it. It happens. Try to pin the dog down next time you cut its nails

Give him some time to get over the shock of pain. Cutting the quick is painful, and stiptic pens can be very painful as well. If he's not leaving blood behind when he walks, you don't need to worry. Whenever he gets over his shock, soak his foot in some warm water with antibacterial and bandage.

if it's only bleeding a little it shouldn't be a problem. how long ago did it happen. If yu can catch him you can out a paste of flour and water on it to stop whatever little bleeding it left, or tape a bandage on it until it finally clots.

.you probably will have to take the pup to the vet... if you have cut it to the quick then it may have a hard time clotting... every time the doggie trys to walk on it... it will bleed again... they need to cauterize it. Simple procedure and it only takes a few mins
