Many people profess Christianity. Very few live it-- almost none. And when you live it people may think you're crazy. It has been truthfully said that the world is equally shocked by one who repudiates Christianity and by one who practices it.

During World War II, an American Sunday School teacher who was in the Pacific had captured a Japanese soldier. In marching the soldier to camp, the American discovered that his prisoner spoke English. "You know what," said the Japanese soldier. "I was once a Christian." The American deliberated a moment and then said, "Why did you give up Christianity?" A look of surprise came upon the Japanese soldier, and he answered with a puzzled expression, "How can I be a soldier and still be a Christian?"

I have found most people still in favor of the war, thus the killing, are Christians. How can this be? I always ask myself what would Jesus want me to do? Would he want me to go into another country with self-righteousness and decide what is best for the people? He would remind me to take care of the log in my own eye before I would busy myself with the splinter in my neighbors eye, would he not.

I try to be not by being religious but by being spiritual. I love God with all my heart more than anyone or anything and I try to love others as I love myself (2 greatest commandments). I'm a soldier too and I joined the Army just for college money which is about to run out! I signed up a year before the war started and I just hoped that I wouldn't have to fight and kill anybody in my 8 year service. I have 3.5 years left and haven't been to the war yet and I hope it stays that way. I am praying that this war will not even carry over into next year.

I am a Christian and I am against the war and killing. It is true that there are many professors and few practitioners.

To be a Christian means to be Christlike. The greatest confusion about the character of God and Christianity has come from the examples of those who really do not know what it means to be a Christian.

Christ is misrepresented and dishonored by those who claim to be Christians and yet are unChristlike. Many believe that being a good person or doing kind things makes a person a Christian automatically.

Jesus, revealed in John 3:5,6 the beginning of the Christian experience which is conversion, also known as the new birth.

No one can make his or herself born again or a Christian. Faith in and acceptance of Christ as Lord & Savior allows God to begin the change in one's thoughts and feelings that lead to repentance and conversion.

Continual, daily cooperation with God and a willingness to please Him in all things results in the transformation of character that prepares one for heaven.

A Christlike character is the only kind of character that could enjoy heaven and the only kind of character that could be trusted in heaven.

Many are simply worldly-minded professors of Christianity and not truly converted Christians.

Unfortunately war is not used for the reasons it was meant to be. Not that war is always the answer. It used to be that war was to defend your rights to Christianity. Now it is just to get what you want by force. Not the same thing. American Christians have started to defend war because they believe it is fighting for their rights to live in this country and make choices they feel are moral and just. Americans have twisted that into "what is in it for me". It is truly a sad, sad time that we live in. Jesus knows what is in a persons heart and that is what counts.

I try to be, unfortunately our society forces us to do things we regret, many men and woman have suffered through their whole lives from the killing in war, many never forgive themselves to their death, because they as Christians cannot believe God would ever forgive them for what they have committed, I can tell you to take the life of another human being haunts you for the rest of your natural life, you are never at peace, because in all reality we Christians do believe thy shall not kill, it's no wonder so many come back an atheist.

I struggled with that question myself when I was in the Army. And I never came up with a good answer, except that I felt like a hypocrite.

I hate that term, it reeks of arrogance and division, I label all christians as christians, not true/false christians. and if they do something bad, then they are rotten apples BUT THEY ARE STILL CHRISTIAN LIKE IT OR NOT!
