This answer is from a Peruvian coworker. Clown in Spanish is Payaso phoneticly pronounced Pay Ya' So

Here is a simple answer for you! The Spanish language came from the Latin Language. You know Latin that was spoken by the Romans. Your right though even mexicans or south americans call themselves latinos. So i could see how it could be confusing. Here is a nice question. Why do they call it Latin America? :)
