Go Air Force. They treat their people better. They have the best manners. And, they have the most jobs that are transferable into the civilian sector.

Each branch of the military has risks associated with serving. Obviously the Army and the Marines are on the front line, along with sailors and airmen serving in Iraq as well.
I just left the Navy after more than 7 years. Life on a ship is dangerous 24/7. Simply walking from one area of the ship to another and you can get hurt. I saw a 19 year old bleed out in the hangar bay because he backed into a drop tank and it slit his throat. In my 4 years on the carrier, I think there were a total of 6 people who were lost at sea, either jumped or fell, but were never found.
The Air Force has risks just like any other service. So to answer your question, which was "how safe is the air force compared to the Navy", I have to say the Air Force is safer. This isn't taking anything away from the Air Force, but I have known (friends and family members) who have done time in the Air Force and their deployment cycles (based on the job you select) kept them stateside. If you join the Navy, then your first 4 years are going to be on a ship, almost exclusively. You will do, on average, a 6 month deployment every 18 months, and with the 6 month deployment you will do a work-up cycle that will put you out to sea for about 6 months. So, 12 out of 18 months you will be gone, just count on that.
I love the Navy, but if I had it to do over again I think I would join the Air Force. My Uncle retired extremely happy from the Air Force.
Good luck to you in whatever you decide.

still being Navy, that's what I would go with. Every branch has it's ups and downs. The mentor program for Navy is great and there is a lot of traveling. I came in single and am now married and my husband is in Japan right now. Some of his battalion is in South Korea, San Clemente, and other parts of Japan. There are also people from my base on deployment to Kuwait, Afghanistan, the Bahamas, Africa, Spain, and leaving next week for Iraq. If you did decide Navy and you are willing to fight, but don't want to be on the front lines, there is the Seabee's. It's a construction battalion where we go overseas to rebuild or in homeport we help out with rebuilding things down here that were destroyed in Katrina. Deployment is 6 months and homeport is being changed the beginning of next year to 12 months. I can't tell you a lot about the Air Force since I don't know anyone in that branch, but I know they do have the same program. Good luck with your decision.

In the Air Force we deploy often. We pull 6 month and 1 year rotations to Iraq and Afghanistan. 36 Airmen have died so far in combat related actions since 2003. So I'm tired of people talking about how safe it is or how we are never in danger. I've been deployed with Army, Navy, and Marine Corps personnel and have loved every minute of it. Each service has it's ups and downs; it's strengths and weaknesses, but we all serve our country and do the very best we can.

The person that said Navy stays in the gulf is Totally WRONG!
My son is Navy and has been deployed on Ground in Iraq twice and may be going again. It depends on the field that you are going into. Intelligence, Medic's and a few others have a somewhat high chance of going on ground.
If you want to travel and see the World...The Navy is where you want to go. But all branches of the Military have a chance of being in harm's way. of course Marines and Army are the most likely.

I am kind of prejudiced, but I say Air Force. You get the best treatment in the A.F. and, for the most part, you are away from the action. Of course I served in the Air Force and I found that after speaking to guys from the other services the A.F. was the best duty. The food is good too, though Navy food is pretty good as well.

Not as safe. You can still end up on the ground in Iraq with the AF. The Navy does all their business from the water in the gulf. You still get to go to sleep in your own bed every night too and take a shower whenever you want to. Go NAVY!

With the Air Force, odds are you'll spend your whole career state side. And from what I hear, its quite boring. Of coarse I'm going to tell you to go Navy, but its really whatever you are looking for in a job. But if your worried about getting hurt, your better off going in the Air Force/Girl Scouts.

Safe for what??? not sure what you are asking here! If you are taking about safe from going into combat, then you don't need to know, it shows whereyour mind set is. the service doesn't need you!
