Because they get a mix of genetic traits...not just from both of the parents, but their parent's parents, and their prarent's grandparents, great-grandparents, and on and on back for thousands of generations. You could have a child come up with a genetic trait that hasn't been seen in the family for a couple of hundred years.
There are also recessive genes within everyone. Two brown-eyed, brown-haired people could have a 1 in 4 chance of having a blue-eyed and blond haired child, so long as both parents pass on that recessive gene to the child.

There is a difference between exactly alike and identical. When an egg is fertilized is receives half of its DNA from the mother and the other half from the father. Depending on which parent has the most dominant genes, the offspring will receive the most dominant of the genes. The offspring could be just one parent if al the dominant genes belonged all to that one parent. In other animals they go through what is called asexual reproduction, where they can reproduce simply by cloning itself. It is important for humans to have a diverse group of genes that can allow for stronger and better combinations.

Both parents have two strands of DNA which house different traits from each of their parents. Their children will have one strand from each parent. There is a possibility of at least four appearances for each trait. Then there is recombinant DNA, DNA strands sometimes get tangled and swap pieces. This brings the possibilities to 8 different codes or more. Then there is mutation and the dominance of certain genes. This is the most over-simplified expanation of human genetice I have ever given but there it is. Even if we calculate all the interactions between genes, the environment in the womb and in life afterward affect the way the child will look and behave so we cannot reliably predict how a baby will look etc. If this is too over-simplified, email me and I can explain it better.

A child is the result of bits and pieces collected by either parent from all ancestors previous.
So, that is how you have a child who doesn’t look like they belong with their parents until you’re looking at old pictures one day and find that little Johnny looks just like your great great uncle Jim.
It’s kinda like a crap shoot. You don’t know which genes are gonna be the winniers.

A child get half of their genes from each parent, so they can't be exactly like either (that would be cloning).

Because they have a combination of BOTH parents' DNA - and all the DNA each parent inherited. It gives you a blend of features instead of all features from one or the other.
