You need the W2 to file a legally complete return. Call your employer and have them send you a replacement copy.

If they refuse or fail to send you your copy, call the IRS and file a missing W2 complaint. The IRS will investigate the matter and either secure your W2 for you or assist you in generating alternate documentation. If you use the alternate documentation, processing of your return will be delayed while the IRS attempts to verify the information that you provided.

If employed on the books (legally) your employer is required to geive you a W2. However, you only have to file if you made over a certain amount. You can check the IRS site on the web to find out what the threshold is for filing. Do not listen to friend or relatives, unless they are accountants. There is no site to go see how much you made.

I would call your previous employer first to see if they have mailed out your W2.

If you have your year to date information on your last paycheck stub you can file with a Substitute W2 (form 4852) starting after Feb. 15th. But you will need the information on your last paycheck stub or all of the paychecks totaled during the year from the employer.

you can not file taxes without a W-2, you need to contact your employer for them, if you have not recieved them by now, you can contact IRS at www.irs.gov, you should have recieved them by 15 feb, all employers, by law should have had them sent out by 31 jan. if you believe it went to the wrong address, you will need to contact your employer.
