I don't. Amazing Grace always gets me though. Partly because they play it at funerals.

That might be why for the other song too.

Or perhaps just because it's a beautiful song, and sometimes beauty can cause one to be so filled with emotion that it can only spill over?

Atheists are definitely not immune to beauty.

Response to the music, not to the theological sentiment. It's the same reason Christians can get teary-eyed at a Led Zeppelin song.

I don't get teary eyed, but I like the song. It's a lovely song with a melody that's sweet and ahunting. We can appreciate good music.

Music has a beauty that goes beyond the mere lyrics.

The one that still gets me teary-eyed is "Via Delorosa." I also still love to listen to John Michael Talbot's works. My favorites of his are One Faith and In The Beginning.

i like religious music, religious art and one of my favourite poems is 'Dover beach'. i like the religious art of the past because you can see a real emotion and passion in it. i like soul, blues and jazz for the same reasons. i do not like modern religious Art and music because it is schmaltzy, sentimental and derivative,( the rot started with some of the pre-raphealite imitators). also one of my favourite TV programs is ' life on mars' by the BBC, but i don't believe either a police officer in a coma can travel back in time or that there is a god.

Even us atheists can appreciate good songs and music when we hear them. Good music and songs always elicits an emotional response whether its religious or secular.

It's a beautiful piece. I have it in my iTunes library. I don't have to believe in Santa to enjoy Christmas music... do I?

It's the music I like, the melody, how powerful it is when it rises and falls, lingers, etc. It's not the message behind it.

I'm not an Aheist. I'm Agnostic. But I feel the urge to cry and I get angry whenever i see Jesus getting stoned and put to death. I am human just like everybody else.

Because it sounds pretty sung with emotion in it. Doesn't mean they agree with the words. Anyone is capable of appreciating art when its well done.
