Wow. As a Canadian who has lived in the US for 10 years, I can say that most Americans have no idea about other countries, even the ones just to the North. This is not your fault, however. Unless you seek out this information, it will not be fed to you.

It's what the USA would have been if we'd not succeeded in our revolution back in the 1700's. We can see that Canada is culturally different from the US in that there are distinct sections of their country that prefer not to speak English (at times), ie. French Canadians.

It seems to be a rather rugged culture, based around it's outdoor resourses. Hunting, fishing and camping are big industry there, as well as in the Northern US.

This is mixed with lots of arts and theatre as well as media offerings. I always think of "Second City TV" and think of many Canadian actors.

Who is entitled to call themselves "Canadian"? Those who are Canadian citizens.

Anyone born in this country is a canadian citizen by birthright.
People can become Canadian citizens by being in Canada for five years and then swearing alegiance to the Canadian flag. They must take classes to learn about Canada. By becoming Canadian citizens they then have the right to vote.

Unfortunately it is no longer only the one born here, now anyone from anywhere can come here and hey why you are at it bring in your entire family, yes even you r parents who are now retired and need money and housing, bring them all you r cousin the terrorist no problem bring him as well. then just live here for 5 years pledge allegiance, even if you don't mean it, and do so all the while keeping your homeland citizenship, and voila you can Now call yourself Canadian and live off our hard working tax money.

Isn't it wonderful, Our once great county is going to he11 in a hand basket.
