I have tried connecting the RYW lines out from the VCR with the original connecting to the Same IN ports on the unit being used to record. I have checked both VCR separatly in their ability to play and record. They individually work fine, but nothing is working when trying to play from one and reconrd that output into the other.. I don't want to copy purchased movies I'm just trying to make a copy of a home video for family members that as yet do not have DVD players. It might cost me less if I just bought them DVD players.

Are you sure the VCR making the copy has the Line Input selected as the source? You have to go into a menu (or maybe push a button on the front panel, if there is one) and tell the VCR that you don't want to use the tuner, you want to use a video input. If it has more than one Line In, like one in front and one or more in back, you'll have to select which one you're going to actually use.

Also, sometimes the RYW cables that come with VCRs are cheap and don't like to be plugged and unplugged lots of times. They may have broken after your DVD recordings, which would also mess up your recording. Try another set (after you try the first suggestion).
