I live in WV - my son's doctor is in Clendenin. About 6 months ago I took him to get his chicken pox vaccination. Ever since he has gotten rashes all over his body. I took him back to the doctor over the rashes and was told it was normal and he was o.k. Every time he gets a rash it gets worse. Right now he is recovering from a rash that was on his chest and back. His skin feels somewhat like sand paper. I am looking for answers to if possibly the vaccination caused this and what I can do.

It is not detergent either. I have used the same detergent, soap, etc. as I have since the day he was born.

Stephanie knows what she's talking about. Take her advice!

In addition, you should get a second opinion, by an allergist/immunologist, not another pediatrician, they often times don't understand immunizations and allergic reactions. Until you get this cleared up and know what you're dealing with, you can put the immunizations on hold (you won't have to start over, you will just pick up where you left off).

While it is possible that he may have reacted to a component of the vaccine, it must be diagnosed as such. The rash may or may not be associated with the vaccine but that has yet to be determined. Take pictures of the rash at its worst to show the doctor. Return to see him and be assertive. Request that he find out what is causing the rash and how to prevent recurrance. If he is unable or unwilling to, request a referral to a dermatologist. Remember, you always have the option to see a different pediatrician. In the meantime, you can use OTC 0.5% hydrocortisone cream. The suggestion to use a dye-free, perfume-free laundry detergent on ALL your laundry is a very good one. Avoid bubble bath. Use a mild, hypoallergenic soap on him (Pure & Natural, Ivory). These additional precautions will be helpful no matter what the cause of the rash.

yes, the vaccine definately causes this! you need to contact the vaccine injury program. http://www.vaccineinjury.org/
or http://www.hrsa.gov/vaccinecompensation/
either program should be able to help.

some vaccines cause liver injury leaving a child more succeptable to allergens. this happens when the liver is damaged and can no longer filter toxins out of the body.

the rash would be a good clue as to the issues your son is having with the vaccine. especially if the rash returns after creams or medication has been utilized.

for those who have posted previously: don't answer a question if you don't know the involvement of how the body works (or malfunctions).

It's probably caused by something else if it keeps coming back.
Maybe it's coincidence that it started with the vaccine.
Switch laundry detergent for a while to see if that helps. Tide is generally the best for people with sensitive skin. Also get different soap for him- hypoallergenic. Baby Magic is great.
If it continues, take him to a dermatologist- not the pediatrician.

This vaccine can cause Shingles, which is very similar to chicken pox, expect you have it for the rest of your life. You need to get a second opinion, there are side effects to all vaccines.

No, the vaccination should not have caused this.
It may be the detergent that u are using in the child's
clothes. U need to use some mild sensitive skin soap even if its
Dial sensitive liquid skin soap or baby soap.
I seen this in babies, and usually it goes away once u wash
in something mild.
Fuzzy stuff animals can do this too.

I agree is sounds like a rash from a detergent, lotion, soap, frabric softener etc. you could have used. Call the pedi and ask if ok to give Benedryl and try using all free and clear or dreft to see if that stops the rash.

its probably an alergic reaction and might go away on its own but to make sure u may want to take him to a different doctor and see what his/her opinion is.
