Ok, I'm 28 years old and at the larges I have ever been. over 275lbs... I want and need to loose weight. I have medical issues such as I'm diabetic and have PCOS. My husband and I have been trying to have a baby for years and no luck... my doctor’s say I need to loose the weight it may help. Along with that my mom has health issues and I don’t want to be her in years to come. We don't have a lot of money so grocery shopping is the last thing we can do most of the time so when we do we get the cheap stuff that comes in boxes and it is not healthy. I have all these things that are in my life to motivate me and I still can not loose the weight. WHY IS THAT? What more should I be doing. I do have a gym membership and I have been going but after about 2 weeks something comes up and I stop. Please can someone help show me what to do and help me to be the person I dream of being! I want to be a mom, I want to go out with my friend and not feel like everyone is looking at me... Help Please!

Don't panic...you can lose the weight whenever you want. I fear you already have such a negative mindset about your health that your motivation to change is suffering. The big word is "lifestyle". My wife and I currently live a lifestyle that is NOT conducive to maintaining proper health. As a result, I've gained around 10 pounds a year for the past 4 years. However, I understood that this lifestyle was a conscious choice, that my health would temporarily suffer, and that the way I live now will permit me to develop a more healthy lifestyle for my family in the (very near, now) future.

Remember that everything is a trade. You must determine your priorities and then arrange your life to fit. Most of us allow our circumstances to dictate how we live. Instead, we must determine at the outset how we want to live and then create the circumstances that support our chosen lifestyle. To prioritize your health, you MUST make sacrifices elsewhere. I don't know your specifics so I can't say just where. Figure out what's corrupting your health, decide if it's really more important (sometimes it is) and then determine if you can live with the outcome. You already know the "how" of weight loss (diet and exercise). You just have to figure out the "why". Once you have your reasons, you'll do it.

I'm going through the same problem, and actually went to a phychiatrist, and her advice has helped me a lot, and I'm losing weight now. Slowly, but hey, if you're patient, a couple pounds a month means 24 pounds a year. If you'd started what I'm doing 5 years ago, you would be a hot, sexy chick by now, right? So be patient.

Here's my advice:
1. Ignore the advice like the above, and stay away from fad diets. You don't need to lose 13 quick pounds, you need a consistent life-long habit to follow.

2. Like anything in life, (saving money, losing weight, getting a better career, etc.), consistency is the key, not obsessive "quick fixes".

3. Identify the emotional reasons you don't eat right, and/or too much - boredom, raised with bad habits, guilt about looking sexy (many girls who were molested get big so nobody will be attracted to them anymore and abuse them, but don't realize they're doing this).

4. Get a calorie book and a food diary. I'm not kidding, this helped me A LOT! The one I got is called Calorie King. You can get it online, or at the Kaiser pharmacy (you don't need to be a Kaiser member). It has lots of restaurant food listed, which is very helpful.

5. It's a myth that eating healthy is expensive, and here's why:
DO NOT buy "diet food".
Much of it is BS and is still fattening. The solution is to COOK YOUR OWN FOOD. Pre-packaged food is the WORST thing for overweight people, PERIOD.
Buying raw fruits & vegetables and making your own stuff is the absolute cheapest way to eat. (I'm pretty poor, by the way, so I know!) Anything pre-packaged, you're paying someone else to do all that stuff.
I had a girlfriend once who made lots of low-fat Indian food from scratch. It was great, it was cheap, it was low-fat.

6. A low fat diet is better than a low-carb diet. I've tried both, and I read medical studies all the time. It's been proven scientifically.

7. Avoid ALL types of sugar. You won't have to worry about this so much if you follow my advice above about pre-packaged food, including all the "diet food". There are no laws for what they can call "natural" or "diet" or whatever. They literally could put that on candy bars if they wanted to, and they would, if they thought people would believe it. They sneak in sugar in ALL pre-packaged food, under different names; cane juice, high-fructrose corn syrup (the worst, and it's EVERYWHERE), fructrose, dextrose, etc. "Natural" means NOTHING, certainly it doesn't mean "not fattening". Poison Oak is natural, is it good for you?

8. Excersise every day, even for 2 minutes. Just make sure you do it EVERY DAY. It adds up. If you have a hard time excersizing, then walking is best, because it's easy, and it doesn't take all the prep and psyching up like going to the gym.

9. The later you eat, the more of it is going to end up as fat. DO NOT EAT WHILE WATCHING TV.
When you do, you eat more without even realizing it, plus, if you're setting on your butt watching TV, you're not working any of it off.

Good luck, from someone who can sympathise.

Dear young lady my heart goes out to you. It's pretty drastic, But my daughter n laws friend had the Gastro done and has lost 165 lbs. She also wanted to have family. She said she was scared, But so glad she did it. She said her self esteem has gone through the roof and they are now looking forward to starting a family. I also have a weight problem and struggle with food options , as I'm on a very limited budget. I'm planning to plant a veg garden in the spring and my friend is going to use a window box. And a planter for one tomato plant. At least thats cheaper than a store. I'm 5'2 and very small boned , I once was 95 lbs. I hated being that small and hate being this large. I've become diabetic and on 4 shots a day and have broken my ankle, knees are starting to go and I could care less about going out with friends. So I watch my grad children. But if I could lose and get down to a 14, I'd at least be alittle healthier and maybe get in volved with life again. I do understand, its really tuff. If you need e-mail support or a place to unload, May be we could help each other. Grandma in Akrn.

I too struggled for years with my weight. First and for most - YOU have to want to loose the weight. It has to be n your mind and you have to work at it, I know this first hand.
Weight Watcher is the only thing that worked for me - not just following the points but going to the meetings weekly and being accountable to weigh in. I have lost 71 lbs over 1 1/2 years and have kept the weight off.
I wish you the best of luck

The best solution to a complicated problem is simple goals.

From what it sounds like you are wanting to lose a lot of weight, but its down right unhealthy to lose a lot of weight very quickly.

First, your habits. Habits take a minimum of 4x week for at least 3-4 weeks to become habit forming. For instance, brushing your teeth. You surely have no problem brushing your teeth before you go to bed because you've formed a habit over the years. You don't dare go to bed without brushing your teeth because it feels wrong not to. Same goes with your habits.

1. Working out- You haven't been working out long enough to for it into a habit so it never continues for long.

2. Eating healthy- Same goes with eating the right foods. Did you know you can eat twice as much protein and carbs than you can fat and still have same caloric intake as eating fats? That means you can eat more with fewer calories.

3. Stopping yourself- You've probably formed the habit of eating unhealthy food from eating it for so long. Use unhealthy food as a reward and not as your majority nutrional intake. Its probably your source of diabetes, from an EMT's point of view.

Don't try to lose 50lbs, it won't happen. Focus on losing 2lbs/week. That's reasonable and completely obtainable. For anyone who really tries by eating right, working out, and taking proper nutrients it is possible to be losing even more than that.

Not only would you lose weight, but you'd form good habits and most importantly, KEEP THE WEIGHT OFF. :)

You're surrounded by people who love and support you. You have all the reasons in the world to be the wonderful mother you know you are. You haven't been doing everything possibly can, just been thinking about all the possible things you can. Its okay because that's everybody's problem now-a-days. Now its just time for you to get them done. Best of luck and I know you can do it.

Hope this helps :)

I found the book to be very informative and easy to read.

I've lost 17 pounds in 12 days, I'm just concerned that I'm losing too much weight, too quickly. I will admit I haven't followed the guide exactly. I'm not sticking perfectly to the listed foods and meal plans (but mostly) and doing very little exercise, but the weight keeps flying off.

It clearly works and if I'd followed it exactly I think it would scare the living daylights out of me because of the amount that I'd lose. So thanks again for the information. I've never purchased anything like this before because they are usually full of trash, but 3WD has been a pleasant surprise.

Get started today!

Just start walking outside of your home. Get your husbands support, maybe even get him to walk with you. If you need extra money cancel your gym membership. It's not going to help you if you keep on paying for it and never use it. You could put your money that you were paying for your membership into healthier food.

And remember there is no quick fixes and it has to be a life style change, because when you lose all your weight and get down to that size 4 dress you cannot go back to your old habbits.

Hello,

My name is Andrew. I'm 27 and I used to weigh 410 lbs. I created my own little diet plan which helped me lose over 140lbs in 6 months. Basically all you have to do is eat 1000 calories and less than 15grams of fat per day. You will lose 5-7lbs a week.

The main problem with people in America is that we see food as entertainment and not simply as a way to keep yourself living.

You have to rethink food...
