It depends on the subject and the content. I did one last year for Hurricane Katrina, and I used a very slow, instrumental version of "House of the Rising Sun," by Mark O'Conner. The song fit the mood, and was good since the song reminds you of New Orleans.

I think if you can make it relevant to the subject, or mood of the presentation, you will be a step closer to a song that “fits.”

it really depends on the type of photography you are presenting. if you are showing landscapes i would recommend using something instrumental. there is a song by ben harper called number three that i have used. if you are showing children or portraits then maybe an instrumental piece thats a little more upbeat would work better. if you tend to shoot very vibrant colors use something more upbeat and dramatic. just think about what kind of feeling your photographs are going to evoke. go with that, listen to lots of different music and you will know it when you hear the right song.
