Sure they "support" the troops actually fighting their war.....but what about wounded troops?

Walter Reid VA Hospital was found mold and rat infested. The VA budget has been cut time and again over the last six years in our repubican dominated government.

After $360 billion spent on Iraq, they couldnt fix the VA hospitals to treat our wounded troops? Why did they neglect them like this????

Hey, wait 'till Halliburton creates their Hospital Repair & Upgrade division. All military hospitals will soon after look like 12 star hotels.

See, that's the problem with you loony leftys, you never comprehend the whole story. Next time maybe you should have someone read a story to you while you concentrate really hard.

1. Water Reed is not a VA Hospital, it's an Army Medical Center.

2. Walter Reed is not funded by the VA budget. It's funded by the Army Budget.

3. The hospital was not found mold and rat infested. The problem was in a housing unit

4. The problem was in a a single building belonging to the hospital, but off the hospital grounds was found to have a problem.

5. It was not the entire building that was having the problem but only a portion of the building, and that was backed up by the soldiers who are residents of the building

6. The Army has already addressed the problem and is rectifying the situation

7. It's not the Republicans who slashed the military budget for 8 years in a row and allowed these kinds of problems to develop. It was the Democrats under the Horny Hillbilly from Arkansas who created his famous balanced budget by screwing the military and putting us in a position of having to have a place for wounded soldiers to recuperate.

Why do Democrats always have to lie to make things seem worse than they actually are? Does it have something to do with all that hippie inbreeding that took place in the 60s?

Actually the VA Budget has been increased by 77% since bush took office. And although he is commander in chief, the personnel running that hospital are responsible for the poor conditions. Do you really think the President has time to tour every VA and government facility in the country? Come on think before you bash. I am not a fan of Bush, but I also don't pull party line crap.

The Republicans traditionally do more for the military then the Democrats, that is why traditionally the military majority votes Republican... check your facts.

Excuse me sir, if you have facts for the accusation that the VA budget has been cut time and time again over the last six years I would like to see them, the budget has actually been substantially raised. If you are sucha troops supporter why don't you get out in the field here with us REPUBLICANS and show your support. Bush is also constantly trying to raise the budget for the troops and the dems keep trying to block/defund the war effort just like in vietnam.

A lot of that $360 billion has been used to protect and train and house the troops so they dont become wounded, and alot of it goes to treating the wounded. The idea that the wounded troops are not treated is proposterous. And how is it jsut the republicans "neglecting" the VA's. They are all of our troops, its not the republicans army, its the US ARMY you fool.

And now that this is being brought to light they are fixing it. Did you know that Walter Reed isn't even the main hospital being used and is in the process of being closed down and replaced by Bethesda (for the DC Area)
BAMC is now being used for the majority of wounded soldiers stateside and LRMC is where the soldiers go first.
I have worked inside of both these hospitals and they are both state of the art.
BAMC is one of the 3 Level 1 trauma centers in San Antonio and not only sees military patients but opens its doors to civilians as well.
People stationed in Germany regularly drive an hour or more so they can be seen at LRMC instead of the "higher quality" European hospitals.
So Is the army neglecting health care.
Oh and the food is good at both places.

The President and republicans in general have always now and historically done more for our troops and VA than anyone else. My VA benefit was JUST raised as a matter of fact and in the whole ONE YEAR I have been under the VA system I have had TWO increase in benefits, both signed by TAADAAA the President. Get your facts straight.

Study the facts before asking your questions. That Walter Reid has a little 'elder' damage is natural for buildings that old. It's nearly 100 years old.

Last year a commission voted to expand Bethesda Naval Medical center to include 340 beds (estimating nearly 1 billion to build) specifically for treating the wounded troops.

Everything is not always Democrat vs Republicans. Many things are considered before the 'beggars' for money are given priority. Every time a cut us proposed, Congressmen and Senators from that particular District/State scream that they want to keep their base or whatever. It's not possible to please everyone. Learned Panelists must study the facts and make recommendations.

Thanks for the question. It made me study even more about the facts...more Americans should keep themselves informed. To listen to narrow local-based arguments/complaints is neither accurate or fair.

WASHINGTON – Continuing to honor the nation’s commitment to meet the needs of America’s veterans, Secretary of Veterans Affairs Jim Nicholson announced today that President Bush will seek a landmark budget of nearly $87 billion in fiscal year 2008 for the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), with health care and disability compensation for veterans receiving the majority of the spending.

The FY '08 proposal represents an increase of $37.8 billion, or 77 percent, from the budget in effect when the President took office.

That's about as logical as asking why do I leave the scene when I see a dead frog? The things are totally not related. Had it been a democratic government, would it have been Why do democrats neglect our wounded troops? Seriously. yeah, the VA Budget may have been cut, but I highly doubt that that has a lot to do with certain incidences.

You are going to blame Bush for killing innocent kitties next...

Support your opinion with facts! The whole hospital was not infested with rats - it was a small section that had been going down hill for years - I'm sure since Clinton was president. What do you do personally to support our troops & veterans?

Obviously you've never read anything about this subject other than this recent news item. Its been going on since the Civil war. try reading Ron Kovic's "Born on the Fourth of July". This is old stuff. Is it right? Most certainally not?
There is no simple answer to the question. The problem is complex...so is the answer. I have a better idea. What are your suggestions for improvement?
