My kitten D (yes that's her real name) loves to eat bread. We got her from a family who could no longer keep her and they warned us that she was rip open bread packages to eat the bread inside. Well, she does....a lot. The only way to keep her from doing this is to hide the bread in zip-loc bags high up. She is 7 months old, spayed, and her bred is ragga-muffin. Is there a health reason why she would be doing this? Is it bad for her to eat bread? Should I make her stop and if so how? Thank you for your replies.

My cat does this too, she's now 6, but she started as a kitten. We just started keeping bread in the cabinets since you would come home and the middles were eaten out of all the bread. I asked the vet once, and she wasn't terribly concerned, except that the bread is kind of rich for her, and sometimes it makes her stomach sick. I have tried everything to make her quit, and its just a lot easier to put the bread in a cabinet so she can't get it.

Don't worry. Your kitten is perfectly healthy. We have a couple cats who do the same exact thing. If they bread isn't in the microwave, refrigerator, or cupboard, they'll find it. Why cats do it, I'm not sure. The only thing you can really do is to hide your bread where she can't find it.

Maybe she just likes the flavor. try and find some treats or food that tastes like bread. I don't think it is bad for her but I am not 100% sure. It;s worth a try! if that doesn't work try taking her to the vet or keep your bread in the refrigerator. I hope my advise works! :)

I don't know, but a friend keeps the bread in the microwave for the same reason, although her cats aren't so desperate as yours.

my cat loves bread, i think it's because it kind of tastes like cat food. (i've tried both side by side, HONESTLY) it's also because she's a kitten and she wants to explore new things. It's ok for her to eat bread, as long as she does it sparingly, and it is a good idea to keep it somewhere where she can't reach. we keep ours in a cupboard.

My cat does the same thing! We had to get a bread box to keep him from it!

it might just be the bag. My kitties love to play in bags but almost all animals love bread. They just like the taste. But kitties are in love with bags. At least mine is.

I think that animals should not really consume food that is edible by human beings unless it is meat. Good luck on your Cats bread obsession!

Cats are attracted to yeast. Keep the bread where she can't get to it. It won't hurt her. It might nake her fat though.

Well, if your is a freak, then so in mine! I've heard they like sweet things. (Mine will eat or lick anything sweet)
Don't worry about it but don't let her eat too much. It's not TERRIBLE for them in small amounts but it's also not too easy for them to digest.
