Excellent point! I wonder why it is that the Bible has never influenced people to kill.

I think I shall go on a crusade to find the answer.

There's a difference between reading something and watching it on the screen. Different parts of your brain are active. When you're watching something on a screen your brain is just passively receiving it and there is very little activity going on. It doesn't get filtered or questioned as much. People don't naturally interact with television the way they interact with a printed page. Violence on TV numbs you. Besides, for the most part the Bible isn't gratuitously graphic and descriptive. It might say someone was run through with a sword, but it won't go into gory detail the way some movies do, when they show every spurt of blood and organs flying everywhere.

Does it? The Bible has been around for ever and ever, movies with violence... not so long. Do you believe our society has become increasing more violent, than 50 years ago? Or even 30 years ago? How about 15? When you think this way, it puts it in perspective, or atleast for me it does. So I would say NO, the Bible does not have the same effect.

Christians have selective amnesia when it comes to moral critiques of movies and entertainment. They don't recognize that if the Bible were accurately put on film, it would be rated X, especially the Old Testament. Mel Gibson's movie was terribly violent, so much so I don't even want to see it, but Evangelicals didn't seem to complain about violence in the media, then.

Seeing violence does not make a person want to kill, if they were reared right. This is just another one of those convenient cop outs people use. Placing blame on everything else, but the proper thing.

Gee I never thought of that...that must be why I am so filled with anger whenever I read about Jesus telling me I must love every one no matter who or what.

I do not believe violence in movies or other media make people want to kill and I do not believe violence anywhere else outside the environment does. I believe in free choice (so you can know it from the religious term freewill). People make choice, they know the consequences both good and bad...what they decide...is entirely on them, no one else, no excuses.

Those that would imitate movies and go out and kill someone are probably not reading the bible.
