I don't have teenagers yet(mine are still quite young) but I have a neice and nephew that are 15 and 17 and I am constantly telling them to put their coats on....they always always(even when it was -20 out) wear nothing but a t-shirt outside. But their mom doesn't seem to care at all.

We try.
We live in a climate that is 70 degrees one day and can be freezing the next. Welcome to the south. It can also be quite chilly in the mornings but warm in the afternoons.
Once they get a certain age they have their own way of dressing. Some seem to think that coats are not cool. Mine did until we got him one from Abercrombie. He loves it and is willing to wear it now. Before he would leave in the morning with just a zip up hoodie on.
If I ever insisted on more he always complied.

My daughter is 15 and at her school they do not allow coats in the classrooms so she does not wear one to school cause her locker is on the third floor and all her classes are on the first floor. She said she would be late for her first hour class and classes in between. They do not have recess anyways. Yes, I get upset and tell her to wear it anyways, it doesn't always work. Looking forward to warmer weather. Kids these days are even wearing flip flops to school in the winter time!!! NOT my daughter!!

I don't know if it is true of todays teenagers but WAAAAY back in the day. Girls didn't want to wear coats beause it messed up up the look they were going for and the boy usually gave up his coat to the girl to wear if she was cold. It was a fashion to wear the boys coat to show everyone they were with a guy. The girls proudly huddled in the boys coat while the boy got to freeze. When my sons were growing up I told them to keep their coat on and sent the girl back inthe house to get hers if it was cold. I never had to remind my sons to wear a coat but my daughter tried to get out of the ouse often with out one. They were sent back to put one on more times that I can remember.

I have a 17 yo son, and two daughters 5 and 6 and before ANY of them leave my home, I tell them, COAT< HAT< GLOVES< BOOTS. I have yet to convince my son of the hat issue, but he does wear his boots and gloves. My son tells me he knows I love him when I remind him to wear these things or to dress warm, even if he decides not to listen.

I thinks its a old wives tale that if you don't wear a jacket you'll catch a cold ha its just sounds silly. A teenager will do whatever they want no matter what you say and being naggy towards them will only increase their rebellion. so let them catch a "cold" if they want eventually we all learn how to be our own person:D

I know that parents will always care about their children, and they want whats best for them, but parents also need to let go. They need to understand that their children have brains and they know how to think. Let them make their own mistakes.
