My first one!!
To the tattoo naysayers, don't bother lecturing me on your opinions of why people shouldn't get them...obviously I already have it so your efforts are wasted.

To tat-brat and brklyn: I appreciate your critique and I agree it does need retouching. As to the symmetry and the idea of the snowflake, did you read the description under the pic? I took a year to design this and the snowflake has a VERY special meaning to me....

You can never go wrong with your own design and something that means something to you...that's what they're all about. Its nice. If you do any more work on it, lemme know cuz I'll wanna see it.
Thanks for answering my question. I do have a pic of it on ratemyink:

The problem with these questions is do we really want honest opinions? It would be easy for me to pass this by, but since I saw it, I will comment on it.

It lacks symmetry, the lines are bad, and the color was not skillfully applied. Please seek an experienced tattoo artist to have it cleaned up the best they can. Sorry. I don't mean to make you feel bad.

It is what it is.

Edit notes to Mistress,
While I understand it was your original design, it is the tattoo artist's responsibility to turn it into something artistic as a tattoo. I would throw that onto a graph paper to even out the lines WITHOUT changing your design. It is easy enough to do. Regardless, the line work is just not good - even the background is bad - it is too heavy in most places and lopsided. So sorry. I don't mean to come off a arrogant or anything, but I cannot sit back and not give you proper guidance.

I have some awesome snowflakes on my leg, I love them, so firstly I'm going to like the idea of your tattoo. The fact it has a special meaning is also a big plus.

But in an honest opinion, which you did ask for, I agree with everyone who said it could have been better executed. Go to a much better artist and get them to clean it up, it could be totally beautiful!

Design is very pretty and I love the colour. I've been wanting a small orchid in that colour with a deep lavender as well, but I haven't worked up the nerve yet. I hesitate because of the "what will it look like when you're 80 factor!"Good on you though, congrats!

I love the design, but I have to agree with the above. Please go to a professional that will apply your tattoo correctly, the lines are bad, and it looks as if your color pulled out a lot.

Other then that, what a wonderful design, it is really a beautiful tattoo. Good choice on a first tattoo, it is very unique, and where it is placed between your shoulder blades is a perfect spot for it's shape!

:)

Unique and well done; the asymmetrical parts aren't too noticeable, but its a nice touch. A+ job for a first tat choice.

it's okay. definitely needs to be touched up but if i were getting that tattoo i would not have had the outline done in black. i would have had it done in blues and whites. and i think the purple background takes away from the snowflake. it's too dark. i would have had... something else. i don't know. it's not awful but as long as you are happy with it that is really all that matters.

If thats ur thing, its cool. The fact that its not something you randomly picked out makes it awesome. While it does nothing for me, because it has no meaning to me, but my dreamcatcher may not be cool to you, but it means alot to me, took 2 yrs to finally decide on this design, That i designed..... Good Job, You Rock!

if you want honest opinions?

it's not bad really, it's just not as great as it could be. once it's healed, i'd probably go to a different artist and get it touched up. some of the linework isn't very good, and it looks like some of the colour is uneven. a really good artist could fix it up easily though!

but really, other than that, it's quite cute! and good for you for not picking some flash off the wall for your first. :)
