You know what... don't let anyone brainwash you into thinking something terrible is going to happen to you and every relationship you ever have if you don't find out RIGHT NOW!

My sister and I both have similiar memories about one of my family members; but neither of us can remember ~exactly~ what happend. I'm 37 and she's just a year younger.

I have been through years of therapy but that issue was only talked about a couple times! (I had WAY more important things to deal with!)

It's a personal thing and effects everyone differently of course. But judging from the tone of your question it sounds kinda like whatever happened to you isn't really ~drastically~ interferring with anything in your life (just like me and my sister); and you'd just like to know the truth for yourself, to satisfy your curiosity I guess. That's why I want to remember anyway. I don't think I'd lose my mind or need a straight-jacket! But it could explain some insecurity issues.

Seriously, don't let the people who've never had the experience convince you that you need electro-shock therapy so you can remember or your life will be nothing but a black hole. If you need to, talk to a therapist, but don't drive yourself crazy over it.

(btw, I've had two divorces and have two kids, she's happily married with 5 kids - Not everyone with repressed memories turns into a useless puddle of mush)

Good luck.

It is very possible! I am so sorry that you have to even think about it! I had been molested but it only happened one time and I was 10 so I can remember it clear as day.

Is your grandpa alive? If so go and confront him. Ask him point blank and tell him you are starting to remember things. If he isn't alive what about his wife? I would say that she knew what was going on. If you can remember being put into the room are you sure you can't remember him coming in and what he did? If you were small then it is highly likely you blocked it out. Ask your parents, perhaps your dad might remember something. I doubt you were the first or last one that your grandfather did this too if he did.

Also think about hypnosis. The only thing though that I can ask you...do you really want to know? Because once you remember, you may never be able to forget.

Good luck to you and if you need someone to talk to feel free to e-mail me!

first please accept my deepest sympathy for what you went through. i strongly suggest you discuss what else your sister remembers so that you can come to terms with that traumatic experience. have you discussed it with your parents? IT IS possible that you blocked some of those memories and may only remember coming out of the room due to the fact that you were so young. i am not a professional but can tell you that i have the same type of memories about a different family member and it still haunts me til this day. please don't ignore these signs. you should seek closure so that you can move on.

You need to make an appointment to see some sort of therapist... even a hypnotherapist if you believe in that. Be careful, because it is completely possible for a well meaning therapist to accidentally plant memories, but you're much better off going to see a psychologist or a psychiatrist than posting such a serious question on yahoo answers. And if someone claims that they have their degree and tries to diagnose you online, please don't listen to them. Such is not possible.

You need to get to the bottom of this as it could have a effect on you later in life. Go see someone and talk to them. The mind has a safety system and out mind won't let us remeber things that have happened to us completely until we are ready. You could be in the safety mode.

It definitely sounds like it. How can your grand father do that to you. It is hard to fathom that he could stoop that low. You need to talk to your parents and let them know what happened. You may need to see a counselor to help you deal with this. Remember it is not your fault it is that sick pervert that is to blame. If your grand father is still alive I would confront him too. You should not have to live with what he done. He may be doing it to other children.

Talk to a therapist. He or she can help you bring those memories to the forefront. Also, it is not too late to bring charges against this man.
