Yes, of coarse we "enjoy" (or perhaps rely would be a more appropriate word) the "tools" (or instruments as we call them) we use because they make our job much more efficient and less tiring for us. There are always new items, instruments, equipment and materials that we try out to see if it will be better for the patient and for us to use to reduce time and get better results for the patients. Some work, some don't but we try them so that we may prefect our technique and reduce the pain associated with dentistry. Hope I've been of some help and if you have a desire to go into dentistry you should first discuss this with your own dentist, as he can give you better insight as to what the field of dentistry is all about and possibly let you observe for a few days so you can see various procedures which might change your mind, or make you even more determined to join us. Good luck and hope all works out for you!

lol. That is a very funny but still a good question.
I guess they liked the field in the first place and that is why they became a dentist. I guess using the tools is no different! It is part of their job.

Oh yeah, and I think you'd love it, but the first thing that they tell you in dental school is that they are "INSTRUMENTS" and not "tools." I think they call them instruments, because they cost twice as much as they would if they were merely tools.
It's like that poem they say in the Army.
"This is my rifle and this is my gun.
This is for shooting and this is for fun."
I'll let you figure out what they are pointing to as they recite the different parts of the poem.

I'm a dentist.
Admittedly, we do have some pretty nifty tools and materials.
I'd say, however, that squirming patients who refuse to open their goddamned mouths wide enough for us to work summarily negate any joy we get from using our gadgets.

Anyone have a vision of Corbin Bernsen with that evil grin every time you go to the dentist?
