I use a L'oreal permanent hair colour to cover white hair every 5-6 weeks & have done so for 10 years. Am wondering if I should try a natural hair colour.

Hair color makes my scalp feel the same way.
You can develop an allergy to one or more of the ingredients after using a product for 10 years.
One thing you can do is to make sure that your hair is a little dirty--maybe 2 days out since the last shampoo-the oils protect your hair and scalp from becoming too dry.
Good luck.

Sounds like your developing an allergy that's how I started with an itchy scalp, every time I coloured my hair it got worse each time (people kept asking if I had nits) eventually my hair started breaking off and falling out and was in a terrible condition, the more you use a chemical hair dye the more sensitive you become to it,I`d advice you to try Henna it`s 99% allergy free and its good for the hair and scalp, my hair is just about fully recovered now after using Henna for the last 12 month, Henna gives your hair a reddish tint which looks perfectly natural, as its not a block colour it looks more like you`ve had highlights and low lights put in.

This happens to me too. It's only bad when I lay on a pillow and then whatever part of my head is touching the pillow itches like mad. It helps to be sure you thoroughly get the colorant off your scalp but I don't think there's much else to be done other than to use conditioner. It's the price we girls pay. Don't hate us because we're beautiful! I've used various brands including over the counter and professional and it makes no difference. It's probably the developer and not the actual color anyway. At least it goes away in a few days. Hang in there! I know what you're going through!

You couldve developed an allergy to one of the chemicals in the colour. You should always do a patch test before colouring your hair, no matter how long youve been using the colour.

I don't think its so much the color as the type of hair coloring. First of all, any type of chemical process dries your scalp, at least some of the professional products have a better quality conditioner, at least that's been my experience. After coloring your hair, try using a deep conditioner.

It sounds like you are allergic to the product. Try a natural hair dye that's sold in health food stores or Whole Foods.

You may have developed an allergic reaction to the dye or perhaps you are keeping it on for too long. Maybe try switching brands – see if other companies make shade close to the one you were using.

You could be having a reaction to the chemicals. Maybe the formulation has changed. If you are using something with peroxide, that may be the cause.
