The Water Environment Federation (WEF) is an organization serving wastewater treatment professionals, and they have some good fact sheets, referenced below, which give general info about sewers and treatment systems.

To find out about your local system, I would web-search on the name of your city/town and words/phrases like "public works", wastewater, sewer, etc.

You might be able to find the types of treatment systems that serve you, then match it up with the general descriptions provided by WEF.

Sewer systems are pipes in the ground - not very interesting. It's the treatment plants that they lead to and where the treated wastewater goes that are more interesting.

The best way to get specific information about the sewer system in a particular town would be to go to city hall and ask the head of the sanitation department. I would expect that they would have maps and diagrams about the system, and would be able to provide all the information you need.

Also, if you are after just general information about sewer systems, you might just google "sewer systems" and see what you find.

the municipalities have detailed maps of all infrastrutue including sewage systems
some times these are on the net
but more likely is in the public work service at the town council offices,
they may be confidential
you would have to go there and explain your interest they will help you as much as they are allowed to
