the tv is a 14" marquant colour tv.the model number is MCT-1494TX. i being only a mere woman cannot get my dvd player to work when all scart leads are connected.the sky and vcr work fine though.i need help!!!!!!!!!!! anyone ever heard of marquant and where can i get a number for them?

First try reversing the SCART lead fom your DVD.
E.g. the end in the DVD put that in the TV and visa versa.
Many cheaper SCART leads only work one way as not all 21 pins are connected.

marquant isn't a manufacture brand, it's an importation company, and they build 10,000 units and disappear, just like durabrand, sparkomatic, life-Electra,firebrand,(and these are all real brands that really existed) and a bunch of other odd brands that's only exist for a short time and have no after sale follow though, the closest thing I've seen resembling the model number you have described, is technovox, and that was a sticker brand owned by an electronic chain store that went bankrupt.

Plug the DVD into the VCR and select AV1 or whatever it's designated. The signal from the DVD will pass through the VCR!

Check your spelling. And go back to where you purchase the TV. They should be able to assist you.

check the dvd player and tv are working on the same system.
i.e.pal, nstc etc.
