Well, those are sweet stories, but I wasn't asking why you love your pets! I love mine, too. Just wondering why some people turn every conversation around to their dog's life and times!

I've noticed this too. It's really annoying sometimes to hear how these people seem to think their animals are people. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against pets, but they are just pets - not people!

Because of the care we fell for our pets, I don't want to have children, cause I don't think I'm able to shape the life of a human being, it's not in my nature. So I fell this void with the care of my pet who, I'm sorry behaves better than some children do. He has a skin condition and he always seeks for his medicine 1st thing in the morning even before going to take a leak, he doesn't go out every friday night and comes back at no hours in the morning without so much than a call, and he understands that NO means NO without any argument. In conclution people who aren't fit to raise a child, like I, find it rewarding the care and the bond that you create with your dog, in my case, he becomes a family member no matter what other people think, we are nuts, well yes, but at least I'm not bringing a child that I don't want into this world just because it's socialy expected from me.

I have a dog and a cat. I also have family, friends, a significant other, a full-time job and a business, so I am not lonely or bored. I have made a conscious decision not to have children, simply because I don't want to. I love my pets very much, and treat them extremely well. If I wasn't going to care for them, love them, and make them part of my family, I wouldn't have brought them into my home in the first place. No one is ever as happy to see me as my pets, neither is anyone so loyal. It's the unconditional love and loyalty of animals that is so different from the conditional love of humans. I talk about them because they make me happy and are an important part of my life. Most everyone at one time or another talks about the things in their lives that make them happy--whether it be their pets, children, or anything else. In addition, they don't argue, yell, complain, throw tantrums, nag, ask for money, take drugs, smoke, get drunk, ignore you, leave you for someone else, refuse to speak to you, wreck your car, run up your phone bill or lie.

Contrary to condescending remarks (not to mention illiterate) like "because their dog is their child to them lol! n dey dnt av nefin to do" - what does that even mean???, people with or without children talk about their dogs because they are part of their family and people are generally proud of their family. Plus they do so many cute things that are worth talking about.

Everyone gets boring once in a while, whether they talk too much about their kids, boyfriend or girlfriend, work, school, sports or whatever. If they are your friend, you just put up with an occasional long winded story and move on. Maybe you will even enjoy a dog story once in a while if you listen.

Simply because the dogs are part of the family, and when they don't have children (such as my husband and I) you are free to spend more time with the dogs. It's a big part of your life, and so you share it with others. Has nothing to do with loneliness, as has been suggested. I know many who have children who are much more lonely than dog owners! It's a choice not to have children, and I happen to love dogs--prefer raising them, actually. If it annoys you that we talk about them, then think about that the next time you share all the toddler potty-training stories with friends or coworkers who have no children.

Because they love them...
Because some people actually realize that we are not the only species that matters, and some people actually love thier pets and to them they are a part of the family, just like children. Too bad more people didn't think that way so that not as many pets would end up tossed out like they were disposable.

Could be the same reason they use animals for therapy. They can make you laugh and can give you unconditional love they are non judgmental and wont talk down to you the way humans can at times. Some animals just give you something positive to talk about. And like children they most always are cute.

I have 3 dogs and NO children. And I do talk about my dogs a lot, it's just because they are our children right now. When people talk about their kids all the time I dont complain!!!

Yes. I'm one of those annoying people you meet that talk to their dogs (and cats) as if they were human and believing that they somehow understand me. Sorry if that offends anyone out there, but these are our kids. We love them dearly. When we took them in, we were their last hope. No one wanted them because of behavior/medical issues. When we took them into our home, we made a commitment to take care of them by feeding them, making sure they have their medicine, and treating them with the kindness that most had never known before.

Becasue their dogs are like their children they never had. Be it a medical or self descision they made. They (the dogs) might as well be since having a puppy going through his firts months is like gong through the terrible 2s and sometimes 3s and going though doggie adolesence is like having a rebellous teenager! Ah they joys of having children...not! But I think the joys do outweigh the bad stuff.

The dog is their substitute for a child. I have a dog that I love dearly, but once I had a child, his status in our family declined. I still treat him better than most people with children treat their dogs, but he is no longer the center of my nurturing and affection.
