i am guessing that one is for editing and the other is for effects. do i need both programs or does one of these do it all. i want to change backgrounds and colors in the pictures, erase wrinkles etc. i had the adobe elements in my hand, and then i started reading the paintshop box, now i dont know what to buy , they both cost around 100.00.

I switch hit between the two programs -- depending on what effects I need. One can do things better than the other.

If I had to pick ONE it'd be PhotoShop. There are tons of free filters available for PhotoShop.
Besides, Corel Paint is buggy on my system.

If you're going vector, use Corel Draw. Adobe Illustrator is extremely user-UNfriendly.

Both these programs are for the same purpose. Photoshop is an excellent program - easy to use and the industry standard. I suppose I'm biased toward it because I've been using it so long, but in general Adobe makes superior products to Corel. But a new Photoshop program new costs over $600, not $100. If you have an older version of it you can get the upgrade for $150.

Why would he need illustrator or indesign? - all he wants to do is edit photos.

I use them both. If money is a consideration and you are not a pro, than you have to give Paintshop a serious look. It does much of what photoshop does for a fraction of the price. On the other hand - if you are a pro or a hobbyist who demands the best and doesn't mind laying out some extra cash, photoshop (or even both) is the way to go. I think the biggest different between the two are the use of color space and of course he way some of the editing functionality is implemented.

They are basically competitors... with Photshop being the leader in the industry... You do not need both.

You need the Creative Suite from Adobe for designers.

It will have Illustrator and InDesign... 2 more leaders in the market.

If you are a student you can order from Adobe and get a real good discount... like half off!

Good Luck
