They grow on vines and are very easy to grow. the next time you have some dried beans take a few of them and place them in a Styrofoam cup that has been filled with dirt. Push the beans in the dirt with your finger to about a half inch and keep watered.
In a few days they will sprout. When they are about 8 inches long you can place them in the ground outside. In a relatively short time you will have bean pods. Split them open and you will see the beans.

Ignore the flippiness......beans are generally in the legume family of plants and they are a type of seed, although we occassionally use the term or things that are bean like (small, dried seed of a plant), although not specifically in the legume family (like cocoa or coffee beans). They grow in a pod. All beans, from green beans, kidney beans, black beans, and navy beans are the same species of plant. Green beans are immature....the others are a racial difference (race biologically speaking meaning two members of the same species with some minute difference in characteristics but are capable of interbreeding without disrupting the species taxonomy). If you buy a bag of beans, get your hands on a good size flower pot, fill the pot with soil, moistening the soil and stick about four or five beans in the soil about an inch under the soil line and cover. Keep the soil moist (don't drown the seeds) and you will see plants sprout. If you keep tending to them (tie them to a trellis and prune) the plants will eventually bloom and pod over. Also, if you like bean sprouts, get a tray and cover it with paper towels (ie. bounty) five to six sheets thick. Wet until sheets are very wet, but not dripping. lay down some beans on the sheet and then cover with amount of paper towel three sheets thick. Moisten the top and keep moist. In four to six days, the beans will sprout and you can use them in cooking.
