Well, to start, there are slightly different sets of commandments, not just one set, in the Bible. Then you have all the other rules in the Old Testament. Then you have the New Testament, which was supposed to do away with the crazy OT rules, but does not replace the old ones with clear new ones. Then you have folks who specifically excluded parts of the original scriptures, which makes what's left incomplete.

On top of that, you have centuries of different interpretation by church leadership all the way down to local pastors. Then you also have the personal interpretation by communities, families, individual church members, who all appear to pick and choose from both the old and new testaments.

I've always wanted to know if the Old Testament "counts" in terms of sins or not. It would clear up alot of confusion if folks could agree on that. If it does, though, we'd have to go back to stoning people for doing yardwork on Saturdays and abortion would be ok (although we may have to pay a fine like the guy did when he beat a woman and killed her unborn fetus).

So, there is usually some way to fool youself into thinking you are not sinning until you have already done it and someone else finds out and informs you. Sortof a bizarre version of a reality check after the sin has happened.

The same reason a law does not apply to you until you break it. Something cannot be wrong unless it is done. Example the speed limit is 65mph, if you are driving 65mph you obey the law, if you drive 70mph you have now broken the law.

Some sins are blatant and some not...like speaking before your brain tells you not to. My mouth is what gets me in trouble more than anything else.

Some people are not honest with themselves, Christian or not.

I am by nature sinful and it is only by Christ's merit alone that I am able to say that I am forgiven.
