You could try embedding the candles with scents from the kitchen -- like real vanilla beans or other spices and herbs that look pretty and smell great. Instructions for embedded candles online -- pour some of the wax in mold, let it start to set, push over to sides -embed pretties on the sides - pour the rest of the wax. or use wax chunks to hold the embeds in place.

I have found that most candle making instructions say that you can use essential oils - but I don't think they give it enough scent -unless you use ALOT - and they are pricey. You may be better off to buy candle scents directly from a candle supplies place like rusticescentuals.com or lonestar or candles supplies - shop around for best prices.

PS - MAMAG - how do you make the crystal potpourri ??? I've been looking for an easy (and cheap) way to make them. I found one recipe with salt dough -- smelled good but not what Im looking for. I found many recipes to grow crystals but takes a long time - pass it on if you know the secret. thanks

I make my own candles but I have not tried that.Candle scents are oil based and extracts are not,not sure if a water base will ubsorb into the wax. Have you ever made crystal potpourri,it looks like rock candy? Cheap to make alot and I believe extracts would work great for that.

In most craft shops you can buy candle scent in several forms. oil in botttles and wax bead form or wax chunk form . you melt these in with your wax .regular vanilla extract comes in alcohol base or a water base both of which, do,nt mix well with wax.
im not sure what you could use that you have on hand. I grow herbs and flowers so i,ve put dried herbs annd flowers in with good results .like dried rose petals ground up or lavender.crunched up cinnamon sticks, this type of candle has to be poured into a container.good luck.

do not use extract, it won't last for one thing, another is that your candle probably won't set properly in the mold while it cools. You need the scented oils specifically made for candle making.
