i don't think there is much to be done ...my dog of 16 yrs did this when he got about that age..it would come and go. i would rub his throat and he would start so don't do that. i would make sure he's collar is not tight at all... and it seemed if i rubbed the back of his neck he didn't cough as much just make sure he always has plenty to drink.

good luck

Make sure the vet checks your dog's heart. My dog had a cough the last 6 years of her life, and it turned out that she had congestive heart failure. It really didn't show up in checkups at first, just the cough. They were able to keep the cough under some control with medications. That's what they told me at first, too, that it was her trachea. I know now that the vet was pretty much just guessing, because at the time, her heart seemed normal. If you need to, get a second opinion.

What has your vet tried? At this point, nothing against your vet, but you might want to try a second opinion. It's possible that your vet doesn't have the best equipment for this type of thing, I'm surprised he hasn't sent you to a specialist of some sort. Try visiting someone else to see if they have any more ideas.

canines are solid at hiding there discomfort, and maximum dental issues are below the gums, they have deep wallet tooth can abscess, and a few are probable decayed. Brushing his tooth would not harm even nonetheless it won't resolve your subject, the micro organism on the tooth wreck off and the canine then swallows it, and can reason injury to many organs and may even get into the blood flow. it rather is extra ideal for the canines basic wellness to get the dental, maybe you could verify with anther veterinarian to work out in the event that they're going to fee much less, even nonetheless my guess is blood artwork is needed earlier the dental.

11 years old is a little young for a vet. Try consulting an older one, say about 30-35.
