A church that uses the Bible as the teaching with not a lot of man's rules attached to it. many denominations will give you a list of requirements to become a member... take classes, sign papers, pay money, etc... find one that has true worshippers... the bible as their base... and where you feel accepted as you are where you can grow in faith

the most important thing is Jesus as your focus... and the relationship you build with Him... not the church itself

The best thing to do is to visit different places. You want a place that professes Jesus is Lord. Each denomination has there own way of worship, praise and prayer. Even within a denomination things could be different. Ask some of your peers where they attend, you see how they behave at school, work, and free time.
This is an example of how much of the teaching they are gaining and using in their life. There is a need to gather with like believers even though some do not believe it.

I recently became Christian as well. You don't need to pick any denomination! That's like having to pick a side! We don't need to. They all(denominations) believe in Jesus Christ, and follow him through the bible. That is what is really important!
As long as you are loyal to Christ, and his teachings, ie, the bible, nothing else matters.
All denominations are one in the same in that sense. Of course, there are a few insignificant details that set them apart, but the fundamental beliefs are the same. So most importantly focus on your faith and loyalty towards the Lord, and being in the right, that's what it means to be a true Christian, not what denomination you belong to!

Why are you a Christian?

I am an atheist, but semi-well versed in the bible. Jesus didn't talk about demoninations. Men made them up because they didn't like the rules imposed by the leaders of the early church. Shoot, even the Bible is nowhere near the original text. The Roman Emperor Constantine got all the church leaders at the time together to hammer out inconsistencies in the Bible.

Ever hear of Henry the 8th? Seperated the Church of England from the Roman Catholic Church because he wanted a divorce and couldn't get one under the Catholic rules.

Just my 2 cents, but first you need to figure out why you believe in God, then the denomination thing will take care of itself.

I have included a link to a "quiz" that sorta sums up why I don't believe in God. Check it out if you want.

a true christian doesn't belong to any denomination, he accepts all as equals and the same as he is. The denominations are pretty much man made in attempts to subject us to man made rules, what you should wear, how many times you can marry, if you can marry, birthcontrol, if you can drink, etc., etc. You'll find that the best chuches to attend or be apart of is the community churches. Theres one in every city and usually they are none denominational, and they accept everyone interested in christ.

Before you chose a church it is best if you know your Bible very well, then find a church that teaches the whole Bible and that does not teach man-made or pagan doctrines.

Let me give you a couple of examples of pagan and man-made doctrines:
praying to anyone other than God
praying to statues
teaching that it is okay to sin until Jesus returns
the old testiment is not important
the Sabbath has been changed to Sunday
Lucifer/Satan is another son of God

Remember the verse: Isa 8:20 "To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them." If you hear anything that is contrary to anything that is in the Bible, then you can be certain that that person is not teaching the truth.

I am a Christian and I have chosen to belong to no denomination.
I don't have to, I am the church and so are you.
What is this belonging to a church all about?
Where does it say that?
I haven't found it.
It does say to not give up meeting together. It doesn't say join a denomination. I attend a Pentecostal and a Baptist church, but I am not a member.

I agree with a lot of the answers on here. Denomination isn't what you should seek. Seek a church that teaches the Bible in it's true form. Let the Lord guide you to the church that will best edify YOU. Just because your friend or cousin love a church doesn't mean it's for you. Just stay open to His guidance and keep seeking until you find the one that Blesses you and you feel comfortable.

I personaly am a Baptist. I have been to many churches in other denominations and like the Southern Baptists churches best.

There are many good and bad churches out there. You need to find one rooted in prayer, praise, and proclimation of the word. Be sure that the one you pick is believes all the Essentials of Christianity. Here they are.

First, we believe in the authority of Scripture, which is another way of saying that the Bible is God's inspired, infallible, and inerrant Word. It's the ultimate source for knowledge about God, as well as the definitive guide for our daily lives.

Next we affirm the existence of a triune God or one God in three distinct persons - the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. This God is self-existent, eternal, unchanging, omnipotent, omnipresent, holy, righteous, and loving. God created the universe from nothing and He rules over His creation sovereignly including both human and angelic beings.

We also hold that man is a physical and spiritual being who is created in God's image. But because of his sin or transgression, man has lost his fellowship with God. The extent of sin is so great that its effects continue to this very day in the form of cruelty, suffering, and death.

By God's grace, Jesus Christ - Who is fully God and fully man - was sent to save us from our bondage to sin. We believe that Christ was born of a virgin, died for our sins, physically rose from the dead, and will one day return to judge the world and deliver His people. Faith in Christ is the only means by which mankind can escape eternal damnation and judgment.

Finally, we recognize the church as God's ordained institution headed by Christ. The church is composed of all believers, and is organized for worship, for fellowship, for the administration of the sacraments, for spiritual growth and support, and for evangelizing the world.

Much more can and will be said, but we hope this summary has encouraged you to explore the links on the right and continue studying the essentials.

none. Belong to God, not a denomination. The denominations now are really turning into modern day idols. Seek after God and let Him lead you to a church home.

One reason there are so many different churches and denominations in our nation is because we live in a country that practices religious freedom.

This wasn't true several hundred years ago in many countries; then only one church was tolerated in most nations. But when people immigrated here from other countries they were free to bring their own religious practices with them, and they did. Many of our major denominations trace their beginnings back to their European roots—Lutherans from Scandinavia, for example, or Presbyterians from Scotland.

Other churches came into existence because of some minor disagreement over doctrine, or to meet the needs of a particular group of people. Sadly, occasionally churches have been started for less noble reasons—a conflict between members, for example. When that happens, Satan must rejoice; one of the things the Bible says God hates is "a man who stirs up dissension among brothers" (Proverbs 6:19).

In spite of this, all Christian churches agree on the central truths of the Gospel: We are sinners in need of God's forgiveness; Jesus Christ came down from Heaven to save us from our sins by His death on the cross; by His resurrection we can have eternal life. He alone is our hope, and He alone is the foundation of His people. Have you committed your life to Him?
