He was in the military and stationed at Fort Bragg, in 1977. I know his last name and his rank. I only have a possible first name, though it could be a nickname. He may not be alive, but I would like to find my half sisters all 4 of them. They may not know that I exist. Back in '77 they lived in the New York area. I am getting married in 8 months and hope they can be there.

Start by looking up his name on yahoo's people search. You'll have to do the leg work but this will give you more information and possiblitys of people to try.

Look first of all if you contact Fort Bragg they are not going to give you any information because of privacy laws. Look find your birth certificate and there is a possibility they listed the name of your father on your original birth certificate. If the information is not there then go to the hospital where you were born and ask if they have records back to 1977. Most of the time that vital information is sent directly to the courthouse where records are sent for that area. The courthouse documents are for public viewing, and you probably will have to view records on a microfiche viewer. Tell the record handler at the courthouse what month you were born and what hospital. They should be able to point you in the direction and you should be able to find out your information. Another possible way is if by some small chance you have come across a document such as an old tax return or some document that is considered as an identifier. If you can find that social security number then you can go to almost any site maybe pay $39-$50 and the information on that individual will come up. Lastly if all this fails you can hire a private investigator and they can access records that the normal citizen cannot get access to, and lots of times they can find the person you are looking for. Fees for private investigators differ, consult one and get an idea of how much you are looking at. These are a few ideas, hopefully you can find the person you are looking for.

Start with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. They have a website where you can do a geneaological search. You have to give as much information as you know, and go from there. I am not Mormon, but I do know that the Mormon Church has one of the largest databases of geneaological records in the nation. It is not limited to records of Mormons. I would start there. Another thing you could do would be to hire a private investigator. They are not as costly as you think. I hired one once who charged $250 but because he found the information so quickly, he didn't charge me anything (he did it over the phone). If you know the name of the half sisters, where they or your father could be living, any information at all (what high school he attended possibly, what town he grew up in etc), that will help if you choose to hire a private investigator. Good luck. Congratulations on your engagement!

Have you tried contacting the personnel office at Fort Bragg? If he was stationed there, they might be able to provide you with some more information.
Do you have any information on his parents or where he was born? You might be able to obtain a copy of his birth certificate which can give you more information on him.
I recently searched, and found, both of my biological parents. I have research materials and tools that I can provide for you. As I am currently at work, I do not have them with me. However, I will get them and send you the information. This will provide you with more resources.
Anyway that I can help, I will.
Good Luck.
I'll be in touch soon.

Good luck to you with your search, the way I found my loser father all but 12 years ago was I found every person I could find with the same last name as his and I called asking if they had a relative with his name...
Lead to me to my Grandfathers Brother which lead me to my biological Grandmother which lead me to him.. I have a half sister that I haven't talked to in over a year, 3 half brothers which two of are twins (14) and the youngest (11)one looks like he belongs to another family. I love them all but I can't talk to them because they never have a phone and they are methadone junkies...
I had my brothers out here a few years ago, it was sad because we knew we wouldn't see one another until they were of age to find me, they asked how would they know to find me, it really broke my heart and still does. They asked me when they had kids if I would be their kids Grandma...
It is a huge emotional wreck.
Just no matter what, be mentally prepared to put yourself through hell.

You will have a husband and your own family in 8 months.

Why are you wasting your time looking for someone you never knew. The real thing you should be concerned with is if you have a REAL father, that MAN must be included and respected in your wedding.

Spending time looking for a people go your wedding you never met and never had anything to do with you and who you: is really an insult to your TRUE family. This is just selfish and it should raise alarms with your fiance and everyone around you.

Did you look on your birth certificate? That would be a start. Then hit the Internet. Ask the relatives, heck ask your mom.
