Yes ... You can use almost any oil to treat wood all with different effects but be care full some oils support mildew and molds better then others. Linseed is a good example.. Great in some applications but mildews easily. You should test it first.

its not good to use baby oil because it will make the wood dry out.

YES, That is what is recommended for butcher block counters. It is non toxic and doesn't go rancid.
