She would have to be a full time student for you to qualify as H of H. At most schools full time is nine or more hours per semester. Check with the school to see how they define full time student.

There are several rules which apply here.

First, a qualifying child who is a college student under age 24 is eligible to be carried as a dependent if they are a full-time (or more than a half-time) student.

Also, a dependent cannot have made more than $3300 in earned income to qualify as a dependent, even if any other tests were met.

So, unfortunately, you're Single, this year and so is she.

No, she can't be your dependent, so can't qualify you for head of household status. She's too old to be a qualifying child since she's not a full-time student. And she makes too much money to be a qualifying relative, the only other category of dependent.

Is this person your child? If not, you cannot claim HoH at all.

There is another problem here. Since she is not a full-time student and is over 18, you cannot claim her as a dependent. Since you cannot claim her as a dependent (even if she is your child) you do not qualify for HoH filing status.
