We have an actor for a Governor and clowns in the legislature.
We have 28% of the population but received peanuts for infrastructure.
Carry an earthquake kit in you car.
Previous posters are right about the motor vehicle laws. Check the DMV site for specifics. You are required by law to register your vehicle in LA within 10 days. But many people do not so they can keep there cheaper out of state insurance. You should probably get a CA license soon, too, for banking, check writing etc.
The cops here are complete a$$holes, as I'm expect they are most everywhere.
In some beach cities, it is illegal to drive without shoes on. It is also illegal to make a u-turn within 300 feet of a fire station, I found out the hard way.
pedestrians have the right of way, even though you'd never know it when you're trying to cross the street.
If you want to change laws on the freeway, don't signal and expect people to let you in. They won't, especially with OK plates. Just find a hole in traffic and signal your intent to fill it. Don't be surprised if the driver rides up on your bumper.
Don't say "y'all." You'll be laughed at.
Don't bother trying to apply for a concealed gun permit. The city's given one in the last 50 years. To the new chief of police.
CA has something called the consenting adults law. Anything two adults want to do in private is just fine by the state.
And btw, it is NOT required to shoot at the other drivers on the freeway.
Welcome to Alta Mexico.

Do be aware of vehicle laws. I moved there from AZ and the person I moved with was from TX. We were in San Diego and had only been there for a couple of weeks and not even changed license plates. Even though the car was from TX we got a ticket for having too dark of a tint on the windows of the car. We even told the highway patrol that we were just there visiting and he said "when in California you obey California laws." "Get rid of the tint." He was a total asshole as far as I was concerned. I lived there for 10 years and finally had enough. Because I have long hair and a beard I was pulled over ALL THE TIME! Usually the reason given was; "Well we just had a (fill in whatever crime here) committed and you fit the description." Good luck because living in California is like living on a different planet compared to Oklahoma!

Most folks will only have to worry about the usual bureaucratic inpediments to moving... getting a new license at the DMV, establishing residency (state taxes and voter registration), new phone numbers, and what not.
However, if you plan to open up a business, it is important to obey all related state regulations and statutes. Los Angeles has a very litigious society. Customers/employees know their rights in L.A., and they will not hesitate to file lawsuits at the drop of a hat.

I don't have specific info, but anyone moving to another state needs to find out right away how quickly they are required to change their driver's license and vehicle tags. You don't want to be pulled over because of your tag and get hit with two fines.
