The cross was a pagan symbol before it became a Christian symbol. In fact, today it's a favorite of witches, etc. An AXE was never an option for Jesus, because he had to have the most cruel and humiliating death available at the time, in order to truly share our human experience. Tough go, eh?

Jesus was not killed by a cross. He was crusified but died due to a spear that was used to stab him. So the cross is a symbol of sacrifice.Christians dont wear a spear, so if an axe killed him, we would not be wearing axes.

Possibly. But some serious considerations could have been the display of other symbols of His suffering, such as the crown of thorns or the whip that was used on Him. Other possible symbols: the Star of the East; the Holy Grail; the Dove of Peace.

Good question. The thought never entered my mind, but now you've said it...

HOLY CRAP.

I can just imagine: Axes on top of churches; axe-rosaries; sign of the axe; priests chopping down trees; and all sorts of "axe-isms"

And let's not forget a bloodier, more visceral, more gut-wrenching remake of "The Passion of the Christ."

Tough to call, he was stabbed with a sword, and spikes were put through his hand's and feet. The sword or the spikes could have been chosen instead of the cross as a symbol. If the USSR was founded today would their flag have a John Deere harvester and a pneumatic nail gun instead of a hammer and sickle?

Possibly.

Though the modern equivalent is electric chair, lethal injection, shooting or hanging.

Though apparently the crusifixtions were on a more X shaped thing than the apparently Pagan cross we see.

its not what He was killed ON it was WHY He was killed that we worship..the cross itself is a pagan symbol, Christians do not worship THE CROSS..but what happened on the cross. So they wear the cross to remember the sacrifice of Christ, i suppose if this was the way that Christ died, Christians would wear it in remembrance.....
