Because there's plenty of hot air from politicians in terms of what they'll do to combat carbon emissions but amazingly little that actually gets implemented in a way that benefits the environment. The duty on green fuels reveals the reality of the government's attitude to green policy.

no government will ever make the changes required to go completely green because this would mean rolling out very unwanted and unliked policy. economics would change beyond recognition and all politiciand know that tough unpoular policies would see them voted out.. they talk the talk but wont do the walk!
personally i think all new buildings should have a mandatory element of self sufficuincy, even a few solar or photovoltaic tiles/panels. grey water reused (bath/shower/washing machine used to flush toilet) etc.
Make air transport pay tax on fuel. so many policies COULD easily be introduced but its political suicide

The UK is not going green!

It is just hype we hear from our politicians.

They cycle into work twice a week and tell us that they will change the world for the better.

But in reallity? All they are bother about is keeping themselves in power and lining their own pockets!
