I have Nanday/Jenday Conure mix. I love my bird. He/She is my companion. He is very sweet as long as I mind him! I sing songs to him, buy him special surprises, have meals together etc. I don't have a large social life, but I get out some.....SQUAWK!

I thinks it's wonderful for a person to have a great relationship with their bird. They are great companions.

I speak from experience as I'm owned by 50 something birds and 6 kids. 3 of my kids have left the nest so to speak and 3 of them think we are nuts. The other 3 love them just as I do.

I wouldn't worry about your kids. Just be happy and if having your bird as a companion makes you happy be happy. Your kids are grown so you deserve to have something in your life you get enjoyment from.

There is nothing wrong with being attached and loving your bird. Your adult children should be happy you have a pet to love and keep you company.

That is the kind of relationship you should have with your bird.
You might ask your adult children what they are feeling

Your children are fledged and out of the nest; they won't begrudge you a new mate.
