I feel like America should become more strict at our borders and with immigration policies, but that immigrants should definitely be allowed in LEGALLY. how should we go about this as a country?

We just had a brutal murder occur in our city by a man that was here from guatemala working at a meat plant under an assumed name and who belongs to the vicious gang MS13. I know that the employers are looking the other way, but the answer can't be to round up the employees. that's like putting your finger in a leaky dam. Ideas.

So many people have based their arguments on how this land is made up of immigrants. Some suggest we should tear down the Statute of Liberty because the people now in question aren't being treated the same as those who passed through Ellis Island and other
ports of entry.

Maybe we should turn to our history books and point out to people like that why today's American is not willing to accept this new kind of immigrant any longer.

Back in 1900 when there was a rush from all areas of Europe to come to the United States, people had to get off a ship and stand in a long line in New York and be documented. Some would even get down on their hands and knees and kiss the ground. They made a pledge to uphold the laws and support their new country in good and bad times. They made learning English a primary rule in their new American households and some even changed their names to blend in with their new home.

They had waved good bye to their birth place to give their children a new life and did everything in their power to help their children assimilate into one culture. Nothing was
handed to them. No free lunches, no welfare, no labor laws to protect them.

All they had were the skills and craftsmanship they had brought with them to trade for a future of prosperity.

Most of their children came of age when World War II broke out. My father fought along side men whose parents had come straight over from Germany, Italy, France and Japan. None of these 1st generation Americans ever gave any thought about what country their
parents had come from.

They were Americans fighting Hilter, Mussolini and the Emperor of Japan. They were defending the United States of America as one people. When we liberated France, no one in those villages were looking for the French-American or the German American or the Irish American. The people of France saw only Americans.

And we carried one flag that represented one country. Not one of those immigrant sons would have thought about picking up another country's flag and waving it to represent who they were. It would have been a disgrace to their parents who had sacrificed so much to be here. These immigrants truly knew what it meant to be an American. They stirred the melting pot into one red, white and blue bowl.

And here we are in 2006 with a new kind of immigrant who wants the same rights and privileges. Only they want to achieve it by playing with a different set of rules, one that includes the entitlement card and a guarantee of being faithful to their mother country.

I'm sorry, that's not what being an American is all about.

I believe that the immigrants who landed on Ellis Island in the early 1900s deserve better than that for all the toil, hard work and sacrifice in raising future generations to create a land that has become a beacon for those legally searching for a better life. I think they would be appalled that they are being used as an example by those waving foreign country flags.

And for that suggestion about taking down the Statute of Liberty, it happens to mean a lot to the citizens who are voting on the immigration bill. I wouldn't start talking about
dismantling the United States just yet.

Simple, enforce the laws that are already in palce. Crack down on employers, shut down anyone found using illegal immeegrant work, let the border patrol actually stop people going through the border, and same with the national guard (they aren't allowed to use force and can't actually detain anyone or make them stop).

Summarized,
1. scaare the employers by having a nationwide crackdown, the ones who arent busted will re-staff
2. enforece the laws in place, let border patrol do their jobs instead of giving them 10 year sentances for shooting a drug dealer who attacks them

Yah MS 13 is a terrible gang too btw. Theyr getting huge. However I thought everyone in MS13 was elsalvadorian?

Illegal immigrants are just like illegal drugs. There's a huge appetite for them, thus a huge market for them. You can hire all the border patrols and put up all the fences that you want, but as long as the desire/need for them is there, they'll keep coming. Just like drugs. The "War on Drugs" is a farce, and a similar "War on Immigrants" would be just as big a fiasco. Legalization and regulation is the only way to go.

1. Control our borders and ports. 2. Enforce all immigration laws. 3. Fine, jail, and or close down those that hire illegal immigrants. 4. Fine and or jail those renting to illegal immigrants. 5. Deport all illegal immigrants here in our country. 6. Shut down groups like MS13, and La Raza. After all of these are done, we the people can debate immigration reform, we can talk about if and what laws are out dated.

I have no problem if people want to come to our country and make a better life for themselves. Everyone deserves that. BUT, do it legally and work like the rest of us and don't rely on government support. Its obvious they do not respect our country.

Definitely stricter security laws.
-For the borders. They get a couple warnings to turn back. If they run or don't listen, shoot in the leg and return them to where they came from. If a fight is put up and they have a weapon, shoot to kill.

-Limit the amount of federal and government help they get when they come here. Persoanlly it pisses me off that its so easy for them to get so much government support and the people that are born in this country/americans get denide the help.

If illegals are found here, deport them without the chance of trying to become a legal citizen. They broke the law, so therefore they do not deserve to live here if they can't obey our laws.

I think we should hold aworld-wide conference about some way to help this people without bending over backwards or breaking our necks. I mean what if you were them, we got lucky at birth, sort-of. I don't think they should be allowed in only n because they mae more problems and its not like America is the Golden Palace of Richness but at the same time i would want to do soemthing to help the "good ones" not the druggies

We have an enforcement problem. Forty years ago, we had no 'border fence' and we weren't overrun with Mexicans. What has changed is our WILLINGNESS to enforce existing law, because politicians won't allow it. You couldn't flout tax law like this!
1. Control the border
2. Sanctions for employers that hire illegal aliens
3. Set a date about a year out, with a one-way 'open border' policy of unimpeded return to Mexico (& all points south). Then round up the remainder

Well the first thing I would do is deport Kooko0 Banana's (he's way out there (to much kool-aide), and did you know that Illegal Immigrants kill twice as many Americans Every Year than what we have lost in Iraq? True fact. Secure the borders, fence or wall them and put a killing zone in the middle, go through legally or take your chances!

It is so simple, a child could figure it out, which is why the last 20 or so Presidents didn't do it.
Bring home all American troops currently stationed in Germany and post them along the border. They have the training and the equipment already. REALLY, why build a fence when we have an army?

Try living in El Paso Tx, we live with illegals full time, they are getting welfare, housing, food stamps, It seems like in El paso people have forgotton that this is America, I have seen people who have lived in El Paso for 30 years and still don't speak a lick of english. When I go to the grocery store and they take out that food stamp card, it burns me up, i'm in american citizen and don't get food stamps, you can't get good jobs here in El paso because you have to speak spanish, they have turned El Paso in to Mexico. All the builders who build homes here use illegals, they work in the factorys, anywhere you can think of a job in El Paso Tx illegals work there, and the said part is its 700 thousand plus population here of hispanics so you know they band together to give there own jobs. You think you have it bad where ever you are living with a few illegals, try living in El Paso Tx. I have 2 more years to be here, and you can bet I'm leaving. Blame the people who hire them, rent to them, sell to them, our own people in american is helping illegals, I bet if we stop giving them health care, shelter, jobs, they will all leave fast, but all american have to be on board, we need to take control of this situation, if it's 11 million now, they way they are crossing the borders like rabbits, by next year, we'll be looking at 11 million more.
