Honey, consider yourself Lucky! ($400 a month that's $33.25 a week) not bad at all, but if you are on a budget get the newspaper on Sundays, a lots of adds and coupons.
We are a family of four, two adults and two children (toddler&infant) we make a family trip to the Grocery store every 1st/3rd Tuesday of the month. We spend $800 on food ONLY. For the rest of the stuff we normally go to stores like Wal-Mart, Sam's Club and Costco and that costs us about $100 each month. We dine out atleast once or twice a month and that is normally about $40-80 and of course during I did not include the Holidays/special occasions.
So, to answer your question, just on FOOD! grocery and dinning out comes to $840-$880 each month.

I spend between 300 to 350 a month but that does include diapers, shampoo, and all the extras. That's for a family of 4. I use A LOT of coupons. I usually go grocery shopping at least twice a week. I tried to do it just once but I kept forgetting stuff and had to go back. I have like 5 different grocery stores by me and I always browse their weekly ads to find good bargains. I buy items on sale most of the time and do buy off-brands on somethings. I don't think 400 is bad, its probably cheaper than eating out all the time.

Been there and done that, in my poor student days. So what I used to buy was lentils, rice, vegetables (carrot, garlic, cabbage or other greens, zucchini), fruit (whatever was in season), milk, cheese, and yoghurt. I also used to stock up on sardine tins and crackers. I might also buy some butter. Surprisingly, $20 provided a good balanced diet. I had a flour and spices in the pantry and grew some vegetables in the garden of the house I shared. Even though those students are long gone, I still practice careful grocery buying keeping my purchases to items just like those described above. Just yesterday I went to the local fresh markets and bought the week's vegetable supply and fruit for $10. I eat sardines, legumes, nuts and an occasional piece of meat, as well as milk, yoghurt, and other dairy. It is still possible to buy good quality food for little money. People who pay big bucks for their groceries often buy processed and packaged food. That stuff isn't good for you and it is expensive.

My boyfriend & I shop one a week or once every two weeks...just depends on what we have & how muchwe have used up from the previous shopping extravaganza.
It's usually $60-$75 each time
but we don't spend more than $200 each month for three people I would think #300-$350 should be enough. Considering you ahev to buy other things you should make a budget for yourself!
Good Luck & I hope this helps

I actually track this. We hover at an average of $300 for the two of us adults per month. And that's just food. Some months it's $200 and last month it was $450. This month will be pushing $400 again, but it should go down the next few months. We had holidays and birthdays and Super Bowl and such.

I spend about $250 CDN semi monthly plus maybe 2-3 trips for a few items (more milk, bread, veggie, etc) at about $20.00 a pop in a month.
So about $560.00 per month for 2 adults, 4 cats and a dog.
But that includes laundry/cleaning stuff/dog and cat food/litter/toiletries.
On food alone, my estimate would be about $450.00 for 2 adults. (I entertain alot though).

That is rediculous for three people.
I shop for four once every two weeks and spend about $200 and that includes a few things like laundry detergent and makeup, and I dont buy the store brand stuff.
You should try and plan your meals ahead for the week to avoid impulse buys and junk food.

I am on a special diet and am a single person... I spend apx. $100 every 1 1/2 weeks. I shop at Safeway and do look for specials. I buy lots of healthy food: veg, fruit, meat.. not lots of process or snacks.

Its only my husband and I and we spend about $100-$150 each time we go, we dont really go per week or anything because the time it takes us to run out of food varies, we just go when we need to, usually every week and a half- two weeks.
