That depends on how much chinese you really could speak. You may just have to give it a shot and see how a date goes. See if he can still show you a good time.

I was kinda in the same boat a few weeks ago when I went out with a girl who only speaks spanish. We ended up having an amazing time even though she was constantly having to explain to me what she meant in simpler spanish so that i could understand.

If he's patient with you, and you with yourself, it could work out just fine. How far a relationship could go in that situation is a completely different thing, but you should at least try a date.

I'm marrying a guy whose main language is French - mine is English. Luckily I speak some French & he speaks some English. Honestly, its not that big a deal. You find ways to make it work, smiling lots helped us out. You'll pick up chinese fast, he'll learn some English.

I am afraid you both need to communicate in the same language to get to know each other better. Either you start learning Chinese or he begins to learn English, otherwise it will be difficult to understand each other.

Good luck!

It's really, really tough! My last boyfriend spoke only Spanish and I speak Spanish fairly well, but not fluently. It was hard. It gets very frustrating when you can't get your thoughts and feeling across completely and when you can't always fully understand him.

I am not going to tell you to not go for it, but just be aware that it is HARD...there's no way around it.

it's not gonna work...communication is key to any relationship and if you can't communicate forget it....it's bad enough having a difficult time communicating with someone who speaks the same language!!!

It would only get frustrating

Why would you want to? Communication is the cornerstone of any good relationship and you two can't even speak with each other.

Screw and get over it. lol Its only an attraction thing, and not really going to work unless one of you learns the others language perfectly.

you both need a language course to communicate..if you go out, you might have to have a chinese person with you to translate..if it gets romantic, you wont need another person to translate... some things dont need words, just actions;)

I would personally take Chinese lessons if you truly do love him.

If you like him, try it.
Me and my wife share a Japanese-English language that nobody could crack.
