Change your shoes. Get some with leather soles rather than synthetic ones. That way the charge you pick up has a better chance of leaking to earth gradually rather than as a fat blue spark.
You could go the whole way and buy a pair of antistatic work boots but they ain't exactly the heighth and pinnacle of fashion.

for some reason i have this problem too. here me out on this....
you most likely carry more of a "magnetic type of force" in your body than normal peeps. your body draws in more energy from other objects which creates the build up of the static charge more often in you. I use to work at a casino. slot machines put off a lot of energy and I would get shocked atleast 200 a shift.

It's because when you walk you drag your feet and build up static electricity, in you. The shock is when you discharge the built up charge as you earth yourself.

its just a high build up of static electricity try and stay away from nylon clothing or carpets and try to "discharge" yourself each day by giving yourself a shock on purpose

me too. its dry out thats why, and if your not using fabric softener, thats part of it, but my hair is really dry, and skin, so i know its dry out, and i do use fabric softener sheets on my clothes, but not my hair and skin, but i zapped myself 2 times the other day in 12 seconds getting out of the car, isnt once enough, doesnt it release the built up energy after that, but no.
warning.. do not remove your hand for one second while pumping the gas, ok. or KABOOM! just keep a grip on that and dont let go and walk around and go back at it.

You got some good answers and an easy way to protect yourself is to wear gloves. Try simple cotton gloves and see whether it helps. If you are still having problem, you may need a neurological evaluation.

You have alot of electricity in your body, I'm not sure what causes this. Sometimes I get that too. Especially in cold weather.

you are probably discharging static yourself-could be woollen socks and/or synthetic soled shoes-( I get shocks off marble floors when air is dry) if you get it at home try spraying carpets with comfort- meantime touch things with your knuckles first- it wont hurt so much
