Is he crying or talking?
He may just be dreaming and yelling "no" or something like that... he is at that age, ya know!
The other thing I would look at is if there is something bothering him during the day that he's acting out on at night.
Is there something going on at home that is upsetting?
There is a thing called night tremmors, that's normal... hard to see, but normal.
I would do some research, mom, and make sure your little guy is ok before assuming it's nothing.
Good luck!

My toddler did this for a while just a few months ago. He would cry for a few minutes then suddenly stop or he'd yell out some words then be quiet. I'm pretty sure he was dreaming, seeing as I'd tiptoe in to check on him and he'd be asleep. A good friend's toddler has night-terrors (her husband's side of the family still has them as adults) and the scenario is quite different. The boy would be screaming in his sleep and she would get him up and he'd keep screaming, though appearing awake but in a daze, for almost an hour. He'd finally snap out of it (wake up) and calm down.
So it sounds like your son is just dreaming, nothing more. If you're that curious, go into his room and wake him up after he cries out, see what happens! Either way, it will be over before you know it, just like everything in their lives!

He could be dreaming. I was told that at certain ages they will kinda "wake up" because their little minds do not know how to shut off from an exciting day. Some babies do not want to stop what they have been doing through out the day and want to practice their skills at night. Just ignore it and he should go back to "sleep".

my 2 yr old does the same thing!! Someone once told me it has something to do with growing pains!?!? I thought that was crazy... in college my psych. prof. told us young children can't dream...I disagree with that also. I believe he relives his day... whenever he has a busy day or he gets upset that day he wakes up crying at night. Now that he is older if I ask him about why he is crying he will tell me all about it --even if I don't understand the whole thing I just talk to him about it and most of the time he calms down and falls back to sleep.

These are night terrors. My oldest done this when she was smaller and when she would do it I would always go lay down with her and rub her back to let her know it was o.k. and we would get up the next morning and I would kind of "mention" if she had a scarey or bad dream.

Just a way to also reassure her I was there if she needed me for any bad dreams, etc.

Your child is at the point now where he will start to dream, so he may be having some dreams that may frighten him a bit. My 19 month little girl does the same every now and then, it is not anything too serious.

the baby could be getting dreams /nightmares
he may be getting an urge to pee
his diaper may be itching him
he could be colic
he could be hungry
be patient ,avoid comparing children ,each child is different
try,
to be with your child an hour or two before bed time
let him have body contact with you ,giving him warmth, reassurance ,sleep with him
put soft ,soothing music at bed time ,let it be on even after the baby sleeps
do not show your anxiety over this issue in front of the child

happens to me every night and my daughter is 12 mos.
They are dreaming and reacting to it.
According to my Granny, it's a sign of an imaginative and intelligent child.
I figure she is just telling me that since it's HER great grandkid!
Good Luck and try to be a heavier sleeper and turn down the baby monitor.

this is called the night terrors.my son does it too. it is very important that you dont try to wake them up whilst they are crying or sleeping. this is just a phase and it will be over as quick as it started
