This is a great question. Religion is part of who you are. You can't be expected to drop it off at the door when you go to school or work. When Thomas Jefferson said "separation of church and state", he told the Baptists that there would not be one national religion that everyone had to follow. But this same President, along with other early ones, gave public federal money to build schools and churches! He didn't mean separation of church and state the way the courts have twisted it to try to elimianate organized religion from public life. It's freedom OF religion, not freedom FROM it, that we see in our founding documents. A religious opinion is just as valid as a secular one, don't let people tell you otherwise.

God is not something that you take out or leave at home... Do you think god is an statue(that cannot defend it self??), or is it a chain(which can be stolen?),or is it a book(that can fall down??)
Its the belief in god that you must have that matters....
Let me ask you this"Do you pray to god only when you want to??who is the boss you or God??who decides how many times a day you have to pray??YOU or GOD??who decides how to pray and when to pray??YOu or GOD??" so if its you who makes the decision then i am sorry you have taken the wrong way.... Its god who takes these decision..So follow that religion that gives the number of time you should pray, the way you should pray, the way you must get cleaned before you go to pray and with a clear message of truth..

I somewhat agree, God is inside of me where he belongs....not spewing out of my mouth onto everyone whether they are interested or not. If I'm asked, I will answer. I have never once been stopped by an agnostic, atheist, Muslim or Jew and asked if I knew God. Numerous of my fellow Christians felt the need to ask, and worse, felt they had the right to know my most inner personal thoughts about MY spirituality. I don't understand "He is part of me inside and out", He's in my heart, soul, and mind, the only thing outside is my skin.

Nobody really expects you to leave god at home. They just want to not have religion rammed down their throats all the time.
They would feel the same way about me talking about butterflies all the time, unless they are interested in butterflies too. I don't presume to think that they need to be informed about butterflies and nor do I override their objections and tell them about butterflies anyway. Even if I think butterfly knowledge is essential for their well-being. If I did, I would be considered very rude and antisocial.
It is nearly the same with religion, except religion is much more personal so it is even more important to respect people's boundaries.
For what it's worth, I don't actually give a stuff about religion or butterflies, however I do get offended by rudeness.
A respectful 'would you like to talk about god?' is not a problem, although I would rather not hear even that. Unfortunately, we are used to the much more frequent type of christian who comes along and tells us we will burn in hell, usually WITHOUT BOTHERING TO FIND OUT IF WE ARE CHRISTIAN in the first place. This is one of the things that is really at the core of our objections.
It is not the atheists who are the problem, it is your fellow christians.
Autism is inside of me - a verifiably large part of me. I believe very strongly that autism is an evolutionary step and not a disease, however I do not go out proclaiming it to everyone I meet. I am very aware that other people feel strongly that the opposite is true. If they ask me about autism related issues I slip it in in such a way that they can ignore it, and if they are interested I will explain more. If not, I leave it alone. In other words, I leave it at home. I believe that people need to be treated with at least this much respect whether it be butterflies, christianity or autism. Or anything else.

It's not that they want you to leave god at home it is that they do not want to be smacked in the face with others beliefs in public. you have a right to your beliefs but not everyone want to hear about or is comfortable with them. Just like you don't want the KKK or Satanist to come and practice their belief's in public. This is not to say that they can not free speech which is covered by the Constitution allows them to. But the constitution say there must be a separation between church and state. Which if funny considering that the first settlers came her to escape religious persecution.

The same reason religious radicals around the world beleive it is ok to kill you. It is a lack of tolerance, and acceptance of others. As a believer in God, it is awesome to be able to be accepting of others, and other paths to God, and not evangelize that you are the only one that is right. After all...wasnt Jesus a model for bbreaking the rules, and reaching out in unconditional acceptance. Grow up, think bigger than Christian, think God.

Yes God is verywhere and with us always, but you do not have to prove this to everyone around you constantly.
More people are pushed away from God by over zealous big mouth well meaning but not so intelligent believers than anything else.

Because if you really think about it God is the root of all of our problems. Most of the killing is done in his/her name. It is better if you keep him at home because if you meet someone carrying another God around a fight might break out

I never said to leave God at home. Take God with you where ever you want. Just have a little respect for those of us who care nothing for your God... Dont preach to those that dont want to hear it, dont accuse and judge and tell people they will go to Hell, and dont expect EVERYONE around you to put up with your prayers. If you want to pray, do so in silence - and dont waste my child's learning time in school with prayers.
Deal?
