There are 2 ways to become a Jew: have a Jewish mother or convert. I assume that if you had a Jewish mom, you wouldn't be asking this question.

To convert, you have to basically learn the religion and be taught by someone with knowledge of Judaism.

Really, if you're considering converting or want an idea of how the process is done, talk to a rabbi. I'm sure that any rabbi would be more than happy to help you.

However, keep in mind that if you say you want to convert, the rabbi is supposed to turn down your offer 3 times. The fourth time you ask shows a commitment to the procedure.

Yes, you can be! I say, visit some synagogues first so that you can get a feel of Jewish things! You can convert with any branch, but if you want to be considered a Jew you must convert Orthodox! Study time can last from 6 months to a few years! But I believe that the maximum is one year! Oh, and if you get pushed away...keep trying, you're only being tested to see if you're really serious!
oh ya, don't forget to ask a rabbi!

I'm not jewish, but as far as I know, you need to pass the so-called "giyur" to be considered a Jew.

Keep in mind, that Rabbi will try to change your mind three times. And also, think twice if you really need to: the gentiles need to observe only the great commandments, while jews have more than a hundred laws they must observe.

There's a conversion programme for people wanting to convert to Judaism. The course of study takes about a year. You can visit your local synagogue and ask the rabbi about it.

Contact your nearest synagogue and inquire. You will have to decide if you are an orthodox or a reform or some other form of Judaism.
