I don't know this guy. I called him wanting to interview him. I've suggested several times that we meet for lunch, but he insists that we meet at his home. Is it weird to be afraid and unwilling to meet him in his home? Is there any polite way to let him know I won't meet him at his home? I don't work for a company.

Thanks for the answers.

3rd answer sounds very insulting and rude to me though. I'd rather just tell him I don't need to make the interview anymore.

I don't think you are weird at all. Is he an old man that can't get out anywhere or does he not have a car? If he can't go anywhere, what about you taking a couple friends with you and say it's a group project, that way you have more people around you. Good luck!

I agree with everyone... I would not risk meeting at his home and applaud you for following your instincts. However, you don't need to make excuses. If you really think this guy might be an asset you might say, "I'm sorry, that won't work for me. Is there somewhere else you'd be willing to do the interview?" If he pushes you, just say, "I'll consider it. Thanks for your time, and I'll give you a call if I need anything further."

I would tell him that it is inappropriate to meet him at his house. If he isn't willing to meet you in public then you will just pass on the job. On rest of it though. Yeah you have EVERY REASON to be afraid. How do you know he isn't some rapist? Maybe a killer? Why is he so insistent that it is in his house?

If you are getting a feeling that you should not go to his home, then follow that feeling. if he will not meet you someplace else, ask why he cannot, as you are not able to come there. See if there is an alternative.. if not, either go knowing you shouldnt.... or drop the interview... or do it by phone

He feels like he has the upper hand because you've asked him for the interview. I wouldn't sweat it. If he does it again just let him know you've decided to interview someone else, but always go with your gut instinct.

No it's not weird to avoid a stranger's house. But it is not unusual for him to not want to go out. He is probably more uncomfortable than you. To him some stranger wants him to meet him out at some restaurant.

If you are uncomfortable, don't do it.

You might want to bring a friend, tell him it is your photographer, or your assistant, colleague. something.

You simply tell him that you will meet him at such-and-such's restaurant, that this is most convenient to you.

I certainly do understand why you'd not want to go to his house. That's a bit dangerous these days.

If you're uncomfortable visiting ANYBODY...always suggest a "public place" instead!

Offer to buy the guy lunch at your favorite restaurant...and see what he says!
