Everything hurts. It hurts especially to swallow. Sherbet is the only thing that doesn't hurt. Seriously. Nothing helps. I've tried everything I can find. It only helps for about 30 seconds. Coughing hurts even worse. Medicine doesn't help and I can't talk. Not really, anyway. It only comes out as a horse whisper.

Firstly. For the day, drink lots of water, that'll help hydrate your body. Next, for your throat, get some cough drops, those should ease the pain a bit. The best thing for you to feel better, get some rest so your body has time to combat the bacteria or virus. Most of these are viruses, so the only you can do is give your body time.

Thus, best thing is to SLEEP.

It depends on what's causing the sore throat, if you haven't seen your Dr. yet you should, if it's strep then you need an antibiotic. Have you tried chloraseptic spray or lozenges (taste pretty bad) but works, has a numbing agent in it. Sorry you're suffering, feel better.

Gargle with lukewarm water mixed with salt early in the morning and before you sleep at night. That should help out.
