You could do a couple of different things....you could get a small ring that doesnt cost as much and get the big ring later. You could save up and wait til you can get her something nice or you can do what my fiancee did....he couldnt get financing to buy my ring sohe put it on layaway at the diamond store and when he was ready to propose he had a build a bear and had the sound plaing his voice....we went to the diamond store to "see my gift" then had me take the bear out of the box and push the sound button....as the bear "popped the question" the girl behind the counter had my ring in her hand and he had a bubble gum ring from like a gumball machine to put on my finger LOL!!!! As long as she knows what she will be eventually getting I dont think she will mind the wait....ITS WORTH IT!!!!!

Whatever you do...just make her feel special that day and Im sure she will love any decision you make

Difficult one - and it all depends on your girlfriend. It is always the thought that counts so the cost is irrelevant, but if you can afford to save some money up you will have a wider choice in rings.

Why don't you ask her a few subtle questions - see if you can find out what styles she likes - what metal etc. Or browse the jewellers with her and just happen to pass the ring section - my husband did that and chose me a ring that I loved. You can then see what you can afford in the type she likes. It's worth remembering that an engagement ring is for life - and so choose something that will be a lasting reminder of your love and committment.

Good luck and I wish you happiness!

All depends on the couple and the choice is really yours. What some people mean by not having a lot of money can differ a lot. To be brutally honest and I sincerely don't mean to cause any hurt but being realistic if you don't have a lot of money at present then when would you likely to be able to save up for a home of your own and maintain it? Why don't the two of you enjoy your love just now and when perhaps you are in a better job or whatever start making plans? I know there is a saying 'Love will find a way' but that's just a fairytale and struggling for cash can ruin a relationship. Wish you all the very best.

The cost of the ring doesn't matter at all - a mature woman will know the symbolism and just be thrilled you asked her! You can get a 10k ring with a small diamond for around $100 and up. Or go with CZ, or a silver ring.

My advice would be don't do anything before she's accepted your proposal! Also, I'd suggest she had some input in the selection process. Where do you live? For value I'd suggest Ebay - I've been lucky enough to be given a 5-stone diamond eternity ring and a pair of diamond ear studs bought from Ebay. We checked the items out before parting with any money though! We purchased them for a fraction of the shop-price. Good luck x

What is your budget? I run a free diamond search service at marriage-proposal-ideas.com/diamondsearch.html where we search tons of the top diamond jewelry sites for the best prices on high quality diamonds (we don't sell any diamonds ourselves).

I've gotten nice diamonds for people who literally have no budget, so you can get a diamond with just about any budget. Obviously for a quality diamond, you can't get a huge diamond for nothing, but that doesn't mean that you can't get a smaller one that is absolutely splendid.

If you feel like you have to be engaged now, you can always start searching. If you feel like you want to wait until you can afford more, then that might even give you more time to plan the marriage proposal as well.

An engagment ring is a big deal. You can go to Kay's or Zales and get her a nice real ring for 200. Look for deals. Don't listen to "nanny". Your gf wont forgive you if you buy a cubic zirconium ring. Nanny's husband bought her a cz because that is all she is worth!

Hi, the best thing to do is get it abroad as its so so so much cheaper, we got our rings in Turkey and mine cost me £1000 and its amazing, 1 of a kind! coz i chose it all myself and when i brought it home i had it valued at a Ernest jones and its worth £2500!! My partners cost £500 and his is worth over £1000 so you can literally double the value!

Only thing il say is you have to be so so careful because some of them will try and sell you crap quality diamonds. I have the details of the people I used if you want to get in contact with them, you dont even need to go to turkey you can buy it from here i think and they just send it over!

You dont have to go for a ring that costs £1000, trust me if you want to spend £200 or something you will still get a awesome ring out there!

Goodluck and if you want the details email me

Oh and congrats

:-)

Try looking at pond shops or go to a jewelry store apply for credit or put a down payment on it and pay the rest off. Pond Shops somethimes offer really nice rings for a big fraction than the stores. Good luck.

save up...in the end the engagement ring means more than meaningless gifts that were bought just for the sake of buying. give her something small and homemade that saves you money if you really need to get her something now.
