I'm getting ready to sell my car but I have a question - how to I ensure that when they test drive it, they won't run off with it? What are the basics of showing people your car when you're selling it? Thanks!

you can do one of 2 things have some one YOU know in the car with them when they take it for a test drive. or tell them ill hold your $$ intell you get back. beside alot of people wont run off with the car cus they need the Title or a bill of sales. when you do sell the car and fill out the Title or the bill of sales make sure u have a copy for your self and write down the Vin Number on the car to
the Vin number is that number on the drives side top dash bord.
keep all that for your records.
good luck
hope this helps
have a good weekend and be safe

Always make sure that you stay with the vehicle!! If possible, take a trusted relative along with you. Never, ever, ever, let the potential buyer take the vehicle out of your view.

Finally, advise a trusted relative, friend, etc., know that you are going on a test drive with a potential buyer.

By the way, be prepared to answer questions related to, and show proof of maintenance issues you have had with the car. Most potential buyers, if they are serious will ask these questions.

One good 'trick' I read somewhere is to have all the prospective buyers arrive at the same time........then see who's the most interested in your price first, then the test drive...and of course go with them yourself of have a friend/family member go...having them all there at the same time should stimulate some pretty lively price bidding!!

You can also have them give you their drivers license, if for example, they want to have a mechanic look at it.
