I'm interested in Arabic (Muslim and non-Muslim), purely Persian (non-Muslim) and Purely Welsh (non-Christian) names. Which do you think are the best in terms of beauty, depth of meaning, spiritual significance, and which are generally suitable and not likely to be a cause of confusion or offense.

As for Arabic names, some which I can think of as being beautiful and noble include: 'Abdu'llah, 'Abbas, 'Ali-Muhammad, Muhammad, Ahmad, Hasan, Husayn, Husayn-'Ali, 'Ali-Husayn, Quddus, Kamal, Nur, etc.

For Persian, Khudabandih is quite a nice name as it means Servant of God or 'Abdu'llah. What would Servant of the Glory be in Persian? Pre-Islamic regnal names like Sasan, Jamshid and Cyrus are quite nice as well.

I don't know many native Welsh names. Brwt is one I think. Dafydd doesn't count, because it comes from David as is not a native pre-Christian Celtic name.

Please give me your suggestions for other such names.

يا حبيبى, thanks for the reply. I don't see why someone can't name their children Muhammad though. There have been many Baha'is with the name Muhammad. Baha'is are not Muslims, but they believe in Muhammad.

I would choose a name that translates pretty well for non-Persians to pronounce it as well. From your list, Ahmad, Ali, and Hasan are good.

I would also add Reza, Nima, and Kasra (which means kingdom and is a beautiful name).

I like Sasan and Cyrus a lot too, but Jamshid seems like an older name to me. I don't know anyone under 50 with that name.

Someone else suggested Arya, which I was also going to suggest.

My name in arabic is Mysara ميسرة (pronounced Maysarah). It is a boy's name, and it means "The essance of easy." The arabic word for easy is "Yusr." My name (Mysara) is the enphisis of this.

Another arabic boy name is Mahmood, meaning the praised one or the aknowledged one.

You have to understand though, names like Abdu'llah, Abbas, Ahmad, Omar, etc, are all pre-Islamic names. Although they are the names of the companions of Prophet Mohammad (Peace be upon him), they were also just common names. My proof of so is that the companions entered Islam, with the same name that their parents gave them before Islam. Therefore, they were just common names that people named before islam. You can also put into consideration that some of the companions of the Prophet were a lot older than him, so they were named 'Abbass" for example, before the Prophet was even born.

Lots of Non-Muslim Arabs refrain from naming these Arabic names, so they can destinct themselves from the Muslims.

May I ask why the weird selection of languages for names?

For persian ones as I am Persian, I love Arian and Aria which are related to the Aryan race to which we Iranian belong. Also Arash is quite interesting as he used to be a figure and a hero in ancient Iran.( these names are all boy's names)

For Welsh names, Rhys (Reese) is my fav, though you can easily go for Owain (Owen).

For Persian, I'm fond of Xerxes as a choice.
