Brent ~
In my opinion, Tommy would be way too much for Floyd. The same can be written about Leonard and Duran, I would have mentioned Hagler too, but these fighters all were welterweight kings at one point in the careers, Hagler reigns as a Middleweight King.
I've never wrote here in this forum that Floyd isn't a gifted fighter, he has style and speed compared to no one today. A fighter can not go around beating his/her chest telling anyone within earshot "I'm the best" when he/she hasn't fought anybody that offers no kind of challenge.
Who has Floyd beaten that the boxing public could acknowledge as a serious threat to his throne? He lost, regardless of what the judges scored against Castillo in their first fight. Gatti? Gatti's been shot since his battles with Micky Ward. Baldomir? Baldomir had no business in there in the first place, the best that all boxing critics could say about Carlos was "You can hit him with a Bat and still wouldn't be able to hurt him" What type of compliment is that for a Champion?
Lets just write here for the sake of argument Floyd beats Oscar. What will that prove? That he moved up in weight and fought another bigger fighter 5 years out of his prime? Seriously. Oscar's best days are behind him and people are making a big deal out of this match.
Tommy fought the very best of his era, he moved up in weight to challenge the best as did Leonard and Duran. Could you see Floyd moving up in weight to challenge a in his prime Jermaine Taylor? It will never happen. Tommy moved up to face the best there was and always fought. Tommy ducked nobody.
Tommy's straight right hand would be the biggest difference in this fight. Floyds tuck and roll style would not be a problem for Tommy's superior reach and punching power. Tommy also worked the body quite well, a weapon anyone would need to beat the elusive Mayweather. Floyd would have no choice but to run against the much heavier handed Hearns. Tommy fought and caught Ray Leonard and Floyd is no Ray Leonard.
Tommy stops Floyd late in the 6th. Of course Floyd would blame the stars not being aligned properly or he didn't sleep well the night before, because that's his style and Tommy would grant him a rematch and stop him in less than four.
Thanks for the question Brent.

Thomas Hearns would win that match, because of his long stiff jab. Both fighters are fast but Thomas Hearns has a jab thats so powerful and precise. Mayweather hasn't shown me that he could take a punch as hard as the one Hearns give Cueavis for the championship. I predict Hearns winning in a second round KO. Hearns would catch Mayweather backing up with a stiff jab and finish him with a right hand. Mayweather likes to fight backing up and some times on the ropes. That style won't work with a fighter like Hearns unless he get a killer instinct like Ray Leonard and finish his opponent when the chance arises.

Run Floyd Run! The Hitman's coming for you!
I think Floyd would get on his bicycle and for the most part, avoid Hearns. I pick Hearns in an 8th round KO/ TKO. Floyd is quick, but doesn't have the strength or the physical size to stave off a strong, powerful Welter like Thomas Hearns.

Size alone would make this one awkward, not to mention power. Floyd would have to get past a long jab just to trade punches with the hardest hitting welterweight of all time, not a pleasant prospect. Box outside and get jabbed to a decision loss or mix it up and take your chances with a guy a foot taller than you and a cannon in his right hand.
I can't see Mayweather having the physical tools to beat Hearns at 147.

Although Mayweather Jr is a very talented fighter, I believe that he would have a very hard time vs "The Hitman" who was truly a great fighter particularly at this weight with his height, reach, terrific jab, boxing skills and pulverizing power. I could see this as a very entertaining fight for about 7 rounds with Mayweather Jr. staying away from getting hit with clean shots but near the end of the 8th round during an exchange by both fighters, Hearns would drop a right hand over his jab and the fight would be stopped as Mayweather struggles to get to his feet. Good question as usual Brent!

Prime-to-prime in this weight class, I think Floyd will be in deep trouble. As you can see, Hearns reached his prime at this very weight class. As for Floyd, he primed in a weight class almost 20 pounds below. That wouldn't be fair at all. In this case, Hearns will have all of the advantages. Floyd has talent, true. He, however, is wandering in uncharted territory as Floyd has never faced a fighter of Tommy's stature.
Floyd may have the advantages in speed, stamina, and chin, and defense, but Hearns has a dominating advantage in power. He has enough speed and stamina to catch Floyd with clean shots. I think Floyd will run in this fight. I see him avoiding exchanges and will try to outbox Hearns as he always does with bigger boxers. Hearns, however, is too big a boxer. I think this fight would end via late stoppage or a decision for Tommy. Floyd has never experienced going 15 rounds, but he has enough stamina, anyway. I personally think the scorecards will read: 147-139, 145-138, and 147-140 all for Hearns. I think Floyd may be too egotistic to be knocked out, athough it is possible. It's just too bad for Floyd that this had to take place at welterweight.
Even at Mayweather's best in welterweight, Hearns will do even better. He has a distinct size advantage

Hearns no question. Styles make fights and hearns has to many options in this fight. I personally think he would box from the outside and catch floyd late and stop him.

Hearns would put a whuppin on this man. If Tommy doesn't knock him out Mayweather would wish that he did. Hearns by decision if Mayweather doesn't quit.
